Owner Adam Wilkinson decided when he created St Edmonds (in Melbourne's Prahran) that he wanted it to be a casual joint to hang out at with your mates. He succeeded.
St Edmonds is an indoor/outdoor cafe that doubles as a bar, and also a restaurant in the evenings. Basically, you can go to St Edmonds for a coffee, a big breakfast (we suggest the eggs with smoked ocean trout), a beer, a snack, or a full dinner. You might assume that's too much for one place to cater for, but somehow it works.
It's probably due to the fact that the food is basic, but good; the coffee is great; and the bar staff is easy-going and friendly, but totally capable.
Thumbs up, if you're in the area, pop in for a beer and a share plate.
