From the outsiders’ view, Detroit mightn’t seem like the ritziest place on earth. We know it as a one-time car manufacturing haven, Motown and techno music, a high crime rate and Eminem. (Not too shabby, actually.)

But now we can see Detroit in a slightly different way – ie: not as ignorant tourists! – and understand that there is a lot more happening in this American city.

One of those things is Sugar House, a cocktail bar that serves up the finest beer and wine and creates some damn fancy cocktails. All the drinks are seasonal, so rely on the best fruit available at the time.

The menu is extensive and the bartenders are always happy to concoct a special something just for you. But we love the Black Palm; gin, blackberry shrub, pineapple, Luxardo maraschino and black peppercorn.
