You might not have heard of Todd James, but if you’re interested in street art and/or graffiti culture, you’ve probably seen his tag REAS.
James is one of New York City’s pioneers of graffiti. Self-taught, he tagged and painted the NYC subways during the 1980s. Since then he’s designed record cover art (for the likes of the Beastie Boys and Eminem) and even designed the puppets for Crank Yankers.
His style is kind of childlike and loopy; super-colourful and a little bit demented. Just how we like it.
Todd James is having his very first Japan solo show until the start of July. Get there.
At Nankuza, Shibuya Ibis Bldg. B1F, 2-17-3 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
