R& B artist Trey Songz, has just released his fifth studio album, Chapter V, and with the release the 27yrs old singer has just struck gold as the album tops music charts around the globe.

Dubbed as the next big thing in R&B, Trey Songz is already well-known in the States as both a singer, model (for Jay Z’s fashion label Rockawear) and actor, and if the music industry insiders are right, it’s assumed that he will be a worldwide name in no time. His latest album has seen him work with some of the biggest names in the business including Lil’ Wayne, Rick Ross, TI and Sean ‘Diddy’ Coombs, and his new single from the album ‘Simply Amazing’, has already topped UK charts.

Chapter V sold 135,000 copies in its first week and the reviews have already started rolling in. Some fault the album for being too purist and say that choosing to stick only to mid-tempo R&B jams and ballads have been to Songz detriment. Others applaud him for sticking to his roots and say that Chapter V demonstrates the unique role Songz plays in R&B. The Washington Post said ‘He bridges the gap between sexless boy bands and unromantic raunchy singers, between young guys who sing shallow songs about strip clubs and old guys who sing heavy songs about their divorces.’

The content of Chapter V revolves mainly around sexual innuendo; with Songz introducing himself on the album by telling all his female listeners, ‘Your panty dropper has returned’. There are some exceptions to this, including his songs ‘Playin’ Hard’, ‘Pretty Girls Lie’ and ‘Heart Attack’ which all offer more mainstream lyrics and production techniques. Chapter V seems to switch between ‘romantic’ tunes, bedroom talk and club music, so in that respect its quite varied and has been described by Songz himself as “ an album that will take you many places, emotionally and sensually.”
