In 2011 MoMA PS1 celebrated its 14th year of Warm Up – a series of outdoor concerts held every Saturday through the summer months in the venue’s courtyard. The intimate space, vibrant characters and international acts make Warm Up an event to make a point of trying to attend.
In 2011, acts included:
- Four Tet
- SBTRKT
- Horse Meat Disco
- Simian Mobile Disco
- Tanlines
- Omar-S
- And DJ Pierre to name a few….
Tattooed bass players and 80s ravers make up the crowd alongside hipsters, hippies and gorgeous young families. Everyone is attractive and interesting, so even without the promise of the growing intensity of the music later in the afternoon/evening, in the first half of the afternoon Warm Up is a great way to chill out in the sun with a beer, people watch and meet new people.
You’re free to wander the museum so it’s a great way to experience experimental art with film festivals and music all in the one hit.
As the sun dies down the music turns up and the crowd goes wild. After an experience at Warm up you’ll understand that New Yorkers definitely know how to have fun.
