Winnie Truong tangled art

Hair and teeth, and teeth and hair.

Winnietruong-detail_full_for_exchange

Winnie Truong is a Toronto-based artist whose work is pretty mind-blowing. At first glance they look like traditional portraits of semi-uptight characters – like a little parody or something. But look closer and you’ll see how oddball and incredible her works are.

The attention to detail in Truong’s work is awe-inspiring. The hours she must put into creating these weird subject’s hair, beards and moustaches is crazy.

But it’s the strange additions she makes – braces, teeth poking through hair, bouffants and beehives – that really add up to make her paintings more strange and wondrous.

You can see Winne Truong’s work right now at Bold Hype Gallery, 547 West 27th Street New York.
