I’ve been changing around my mind a bit, but think I’ve finally made my decision for next years contikis. Gonna do LA Explorer, then Wild Western. After Wild Western, there’s about a week before Grand Southern starts. After Grand Southern, I’ll have about a week and a half before I have to be home.
I’m really interested in just catching the Amtrak train around the country a bit. I definitely want to go to Seattle, and although can’t travel through the north, thought I might catch the train all throughout so I can still see lots of the country.
I was wondering how long is recommended staying in LA before Grand Southern, taking in to account I’ll be doing both LA Explorer and Wild Western. Would only 1 extra day for Disneyland be enough?
And how much longer should I stay in New York to see everything before I head back down to LA for my flight home?
Just looking for rough ideas. What a long post! Haha.
Thanks in advance

I’m going to be going on the Egypt & The Nile Tour on the 18th and I was just looking up some legal things. I read that you must have proof of vaccinations otherwise you might not be allowed to enter the country.
Have any of you had to prove this? Or had any problems?

Is it really that freaky and hard to work out? We are thinking it looks like the easiest way to get round and I found their website which is fantastic – you put in where you are starting and where you want to go and it tells you how to get there! What are everyones experiences of the subway like?

Has anyone ever had any problems with booking a room in Europe through hotels.com? If I book through them the room is half of what it normally would be but I’m worried about the hotel not having my reservation or something.

I am doing the Grand Explorer tour ending in Christchurch and want to spend some time in dunedin and maybe some other interesting places around there? I’m also thinking of perhaps going up to Nelson/Greymouth area as the Contiki tour doesn’t go there …. any suggestions on the length of time I should spend in NZ after the tour is completed? I originally planned for 2 weeks but aren’t sure if it is too long of a time. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Friends, i am planning on talking European Inspiration trip. I’m a US green card holder, which means i require a UK and Schengen visa for this trip. Since after UK the first country we will be entering through ferry is France. Does this mean i need to get my schengen visa from French Consulate. Does the first stop in France, Calais, has a passport office?
I would greatly appreciate your response.

I just came back from doing a tour on my own in Melbourne. My advice is take a VERY warm jumper/jacket if you are doing the Penguin Tour or Great ocean road.
I only took a light jumper down and had to get a blanket/shawl at the penguins and got to apollo bay and HAD to get a fleecy jumper which I wont wear again for ages lol. Great ocean road was raining the whole time and the wind was like near cyclonic conditions. Dont take an umbrella with you coz its only just going to be turned inside out over and over again.

Are electrical sockets the same in England as in the rest of Europe or will I need to buy a different type of adapter for England specifically?
Thanks!

Hi, i’m doing the Grand Southern Tour next April with a friend. After the end of the tour we’re going to use the Greyhound buses for approx. 60 days to explore the northern states from New York to Las Vegas. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for using the Greyhounds and also, how easy will it be to get reasonable/budget accommodation in each stop without booking in advance? Any advice would be really appreciated! ![]()

Watch out everyone – there is a big difference in the Contiki brochures between “Visit” & “See”.
“Visit” means you actually go in – “See” means a quick drive-by.
Don’t get burned.
We had a fabulous trip nonetheless…but Contiki really should be clearer in their wording.
