How safe is the neighbourhood around the Royal National and the Imperial? Is it pretty sketchy or would you consider it safe enough to go for a walk alone at night?

My tour says its “Not Available” in the dates and rates section! 
I really hope this means that the tour is booked out, not that it is cancelled!!!!!
Can anyone tell me?

Since budgeting is a common thread……
Just a note that the price listed on the website for optional extras isnt necessarily the most up to date source (in case some didnt know that already).
In my info pack for my tour some were a few euro more or less, so when budgeting dont make the mistake of adding up the cost of all the optional extras and only having that amount of euro for them, have a little more.
for those of you doing Simply Italy, the Lake Garda Cruise is 9 Euro (in my info sheet about the optional extras – but again could change by the time your tour starts.

Hi all i’ve just booked winter discovery on the 13th January. Anyone know if this time is busy? Staying at the Royal National a couple of days beforehand. Any advice welcome.

Does anyone know much about transfers to and from Stansfed airport ? I need to get from Heathrow to Stansfed, then to the Royal National Hotel. Then after the tour I need to get from the Royal National Hotel to Stansfed airport. Any information would be great so that I can do some further research. Cheers

I have a question in regards to the issuance of the contiki travel documents. I read somewhere that the usual time we receive them is around 2-3 weeks before departure date.
My problem is my friend and I are travelling solo around Europe for about 5 weeks before the contiki tour. Is it possible to arrange for them to be sent out earlier? If not are they even that important?
Can we just turn up on the date and mark our names off?

Do you select and pay for optionals at the beginning of the tour & can you change your mind to not do/do an option. OR do you pay as we go kind of thing?

ok so i picked up my travel docs and im still confused with the itinerary and sightseeing. ok so it says like see the eiffel tower, arc de triomphes etc and like visit the old town in.. so does contiki take us to those places or is it like when were there go check out (find it yourself). to what extent does contiki take us sightseeing, and on days in the city is it just up to us to go see everything. if someone could clear this up for me would be heaps appreciated!

I was on the European Encounter tour for 19 September but it got cancelled. Now I’m on the european discovery tour for 18 September, which is also not a guaranteed tour, which means that it can also get cancelled. Just wondering if their is somebody else out there with the same problem? If this tour get’s cancelled then I’ll probaly go back-packing as all the other tours are fully booked

My friend and I did the Grand Explorer from June 9-25 and I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing the trip was! We had Brendon as our tour manager for half of the trip and Pumba for the other. Brendon definitely has a GREAT personality! Richie was our driver and I’m still amazed at his driving abilities!
The group of people were AMAZING and all of the activities were easy to choose and there was never a dull moment! My favorite city was Christchurch but I truly loved all of New Zealand. The people are super friendly and if you are a vegetarian like me, you will have no problem finding things to eat!
I HIGHLY recommend this trip if you are going to New Zealand! I think the bus tour enhances the experience and you get to meet so many different people from different countries. I definitely want to do another Contiki in the future!

My name is David and I’m from New York. I am planning to travel on Whitsundays and Coast (reverse) tour for August 31, 2008. I was wondering if my cell phone from the United States will work in Australia. If so, do I dial numbers differently when I call someone. Also, for the people traveling solo, how many roomates are assigned to a room? Lastly, how many travelers will be on my bus for this tour?

Does anyone happen to know if the hotels on the European Discovery tour have towels? I would assume that they do, but I just want to make sure that I don’t need to pack one or buy one of those fast drying ones the camping people talk about.

Hi all,
I am heading on the Beaches and Reefs tour in November and i am a bit confused by the meals thins. Sometimes there are (B) or (D) symbols beside the itinerary but i have been reading that meals are NOT included. What’s the deal??

I’m doing the european encounter Jan 7th next year and am wondering about the weather. I’m prepared for snow and cold winds but is there much rain and does the cold weather limit what you can see

Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where my mates and I should celebrate new years eve 07/08. We have a choice of Paris, Lyon, French Riviera, Rome, Innsbruck, Lucerne or Amsterdam.
Has anyone celebrated new years eve at any of these places while on Contiki?
