Ok…Im going on the encounter tour by myself on the 11 of March and i need to ask some questions!
To carry my passport on me or lock away in hotel safes or in luggage??
Im going to buy a money belt but what about when i go out to a musical or to the pub. What is a safe way to carry important items?
Someone mentioned that you need a small backpack to take to Switzerland because you cant take luggage on the cable car. Do i just pack this in my suitcase and do i really need this backpack??
Is 5000AUS enough for about 19 days not including flying?
I was thinking of using passport cash for my money so that way i dont have heaps on me at one time. Has anyone else used the card and is it ok?
Can you use a commonwealth EFTPOS card in Europe?
I think thats it and if you have any other advice, id love to hear it!!!
Thanks,
Hayley

HI Just wondering if the Grand Northern contiki tour running on from the 18th of September is one or two bues? A friend that did the Northern Esscape about the same time last year said there was two tours running at the same time traveling together.
Maybe a Moberator can answer this.
Thanks

………..part two of things Melb_Girl is frightened of continues with public transport. I’m getting the vibe that the hotels we will be staying in (Euro Inspiration tour) are not exactly central. This probably means that to get around on free days there may be the need to use the local train/tram/bus services. Does anyone know how user-friendly these are?

I need help. I have heard that these hotels are really bad and have a reputation for money/belongings being stolen. What other hotels are there that are cheap and decent to stay at?
I’m staying in London for 3 days before tour starts

Hi folks,
26 y/o guy from Sydney here. How are you?
Will be going to this Euro trip by myself, I’ve always wanted to visit London, Paris and Rome. If I like it I might move and stay there for a few years so this trip will let me see where I like best. Have plans to learn French and Italian language since I’ve 9 months to go haha.
Will be staying in Rome for at least 2 more days after the tour ends! That’s the grand plan yeah.
Anyone going on this trip? Drop me a message. ![]()

Hi all,
I’m heading out on the Wild Western tour leaving Jan 24th 07. I was wondering if the LA to the Bay, California highlights and Wild Western tours all go together on the same bus (obviously stopping and starting in different places?)
I think our Wild Western tour is all sold out, but only a handful of people have posted on the forum. And because I’d like to get in touch with more people before i go, wondering if there’s any point hooking up with people on these other tours??

Anyone travelling Berlin, Prague, Vienna around March? Or if you have already how did you enjoy the trip and met new people?

Ok guys I need some help! I’m very confused! ![]()
I’ve booked a LTA on the 26th Aug 08 – this is a 21 day tour. Ive then got 2 weeks in Europe before I fly to America, and I really want to try and spend time in London, Switzerland, Prague and Amsterdam before I leave.
After a contiki info session last night in Melbourne, I was recommnded a $700 busabout flexi pass to get around afterwards. Which seems like a great idea, but I will still have to make some flights to and from places (i.e Athens – the busabout routes are one way and only 6 stops are allowed for the fleix pass) and this price dose not include any accomodation/food.
Looking again through the brochure today, I found the European Contrast tour. This tour covers pretty much the same itinery as London to Athens, minus Barcelona, Athens and the extra day in Paris. But also includes Vienna, Prague, Munich, the Swiss Alps and Amsterdam for only approximatley $900 AU more.
Does anybody think it would be worth switching my LTA to the 29 day Contrasts? $900 AU more for 8 extra days and the addition of company on my birthday? Or would it be a better idea to finish in Athens and spend a week on my own before heading back to London?
It might seem a no brainer but wanted to hear from someone who had done either tour if possible. Any help no matter how small would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Hey all. I’m sure this has been asked a million times, but am I going to have a blast in Europe in Winter?
I’ve done Europe twice in Summer (all of the party islands etc.) and I loved it, and some of you may have read my Whirl review and blog which I have posted on the forums somewhere.
I am planning to do a Contiki at the end of next year (Dec 09) and just wanted to know if it’s just as “fun”. Is it so cold that the nightlife dies down? I understand it won’t be as “electric” as summer, but I’m a bit of a party boy and love to hit the town at night (doesn’t everyone!?)
Also, I want to do a tour that has me spending NYE in either Amsterdam or Berlin. Anyone been in those cities on NYE that can share some light on what it’s like? I hear Amsterdam is one of the best places in the world to spend NYE.
Thanks in advance to all that can reply! ![]()

Hey all,
I’m doing the Euro Discovery Tour (12 days) in Jan, and then travelling solo for about 5 weeks afterwards through Western Europe. This is absolute shoestring, so my budget is pretty tight, and I was looking to busget around 50euro a day while on contiki.
Now reading everyone else’s posts I’m starting to think thats way too little… but I can’t just blow all my money on contiki or i’ll end up on the streets later on.
Is it possible to enjoy myself, have a few drinks and hang out with everyone on this type of budget? (This doesn’t include Trip Optionals by the way)
Thanks in advance x

Im heading to the USA in under a month. Im still undecided on which way to go with my mobile phone. Im not sure if I should get International Roaming turned on for my phone or if I should get an International SIM Card, such as the Contiki Ekit Sim, and use that. I’ve tried a search on the forums for ekit sim cards for the US and I could only find one and they said it wasnt the best coverage wise and for price it was still fairly dear.
Just wondering if anyone else has used the Ekit SIM, or a similar one, in the US and how they found it? Would you recommend it or just getting International Roaming?
I’ll be away for just over a month so for me using a mobile phone will be easier to keep in touch with friends and family than sending emails etc.
Thanks
Aaron
