Hi,
I’m going to be doing the Grand Explorer, leaving on December 30. I know it’s a long way away, but I’m trying to plan and budget for my optionals now. I have a couple of questions about Rotorua and I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me clarify these:
1. Are there any optionals that involve going to a mineral pool / spa? I’ve heard that some people went somewhere called the “Polynesian Spa”, but from what I can gather this was not a Contiki optional … ?
2. Is the cultural experience and hangi dinner the optional called "Te Puia? And if it’s not, how much does that optional dinner cost? (as it doesn’t seem to be in the list of optionals on the website).
3. If I did Zorbing and Tu Puia (and the optional dinner, assuming that it’s not the Te Puia thing), would I also have time to go to a spa?
Hope someone can help!
Cheers
Bek

Hi there,
I have not yet booked a tour – looking at doing one next year.
I was just wondering, I am from New Zealand, but am going to be in America for 2 months before the tour I’m wanting to do (Wild Western) starts. Am I able to receive my contiki documents at the place I will be – it’s going to be the same place I’m at for the full 2 months prior.
If not, how else will I get these?
Thanks

I’m on the London/Paris/Rome tour in June and will arrive in Rome on a Saturday by train. I have heard from a previous tourer that they missed seeing the Vatican Museum on Saturday because they didn’t arrive at their hotel until 11:30am and therefore made it down to the lineups at around noon, but after 15 or 20 min, the doors closed.
Is there a way to avoid the lineups to see the museum? Any tips?!? I’ve heard that guided tours are offered, and saw one listed at 2pm, but I’m unsure of that, because the museum apparently closes at 13:45 on Saturdays.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
Also, in the chance that I don’t get to see the museum/Sistine Chapel, are there still a lot of places at the Vatican to see?

Hi,
i figure people travelling in june/july etc are starting to think about the clothes situation as i am so thought i’d create a thread for everyone to discuss/ask questions and keep it all in the one thread.
Can anyone give me some input on the below clothes. I’ll be away for 5 and a half weeks and my tour goes for 4 weeks (25 days).
2 pairs jeans (1 for daytime, 1 for going out)
1 pair brown pants (for going out, optionals)
2 pairs 3/4 pants (1 black, 1 grey)
1 or maybe 2 skirts
1 dress
6 ‘going out tops’
14 (about) tank tops/singlets for day time
2 jackets
Does this amount seem about right?

Hi all,
Am intending to go on the European Discovery in December of 2009. Just curious as to whether the tourist/souvenir shops will still have a wide range at this time? It will be my first time overseas so I am really keen to bring back a lot to make everyone at home jealous hehe.
Thanks ![]()

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has stayed at BASE Auckland Central Backpackers before, or knows of someone who has. Is it good? Central to the city? What transport did you take from the air port and how much did it cost?

hi everyone!
i’ve been reading old posts about voltages and making sure you dont blow stuff up.
i just bought a new camera that has a li-lon battery 3.7v. is this safe to plug in or do i need something to protect it?
i could handle stuffing up a hand dryer but couldn’t cope losing my camera!!!

Hey all!
I am heading overseas on December 28 for the European Ispiration tour and I am freaking out about what to take for clothing.
I have been told once you are inside any of the buildings it gets boiling hot, but I still get cold pretty easily hahaha
I have a plain black ski jacket which just looks like a big hoody and thermels…is there anything else in particularly I should be taking?
Also, when you go out at night, what are you supposed to wear? (such a girly question I know!)
Thanks for your help! :-)

Hi there,
will stay 12 days in Italy.
I have noticed: “you are required to report your presence on Italian territory to the local Central Police Station of the provice in which you are staying within 8 working days from the date of entry and apply for a residence permit”?
Does any one know anything about it? Does tour manager organise it for us?
cheers!

Hi,
(with 1 week to go i realised i’d better make sure i know what to do when arriving)
Q. is the heathrow tube station still under construction? (if so, there’s just a shuttle bus or something to the next station? what do you do/where to go?)
(if not, just tube piccadilly line north to rus square right?)
also i arrive 6am the day before my tour.
that day i’d do the original/red bus tour i guess?
and then i’ve got 5 days in london after my tour..
should i get a london pass, or just a tube pass? would the bus tour already have included most stuff that the london pass will include?
are these both just available from the contiki basement?
does the tube/london pass include trips if i want to go for a day out of london, south or wherever?
also does the contiki basement sell london guide books? is it better to but a book before (like the éyewitness’books) or just wait til i get there?
a few questions i know.
Any advice greatley appreciated!!
