Ok question about voltage and adapters. Last time I went to Europe, London and Paris, I bought a travel hairdryer that was suppose to work in Europe, it came with adapters and all the stuff you need. So when I plugged it in the wall and turned it on the whole thing turned bright red and started smoking on me!
My question is now I would like to bring my video camera and digital camera. I am going for 14 days so I will definitely need to charge them sometimes during the trip. Are there certain adapters or wall plugs that work really well with cameras and stuff? and where do I get them? My camera and video camera are both a Sony. Thanks.

Hello Contiki travellers
,
I hope I’m putting my question at the right forum.
I need some advice from travellers who made one of the following trips:
- Eastern Road, departure 27th of June next.
- Mediterranean Highlights, departure 27th of June next, starting in Madrid.
I am a 25-year old Dutch girl, who likes to combine sightseeing and partying in an awesome trip.
Which of these trips is the best? I really cannot make a choice between them, it’s just so difficult!

Heya,
Im a nz’er who has lived in nz for 15yrs but has never travelled the country. I have been back to europe twice but have finally decided to stay put and see the wonderful country I currently live in.
My question is whether there are many kiwi’s that go on these tours or would I turn out to be the werido that nobody speaks too? I want to do a tour as I love meeting new people and it takes heaps of hassle away when somebody organises travel + accomodation for you. Any thoughts or ideas? Would love if past-travellers who went on a NZ tour could chip in some advice if possible.
Cheers guys! If worse comes to worse I can just pretend I just came over from Poland and speak half polish + broken english ![]()

Hi, for anyone who has been on this tour …
Did you find that you had enough time in Athens? I read somewhere on this website that 1 day is enough to see all of Athens.
My travel agent suggested I book an extra hotel night in Athens after the tour because I would have to leave the hotel in the middle of the night (1am) to catch a 4am flight even though that hotel night is included in the tour. I’m thinking that even if I book another hotel night, I’d still have to leave at 4am that next day anyways …
So I’m wondering if another day spent in Athens is worth the cost of a hotel ($189) or whether that would be a waste of money and I would have already spent enough time in Athens during the actual tour?
Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone… sorry if this is a dumb and/or often answered question, I couldn’t find an answer anywhere.
I’m doing Eastern Road this May and our tour starts at 7pm in Berlin the first night- but the flight I’m looking at taking gets in at 8:30 am! How early can we check in at the hotel in Berlin? I would love to use the day to sightsee but I’m not really keen on lugging my lovely purple suitcase around Berlin all day! Any help would be great, thanks!

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows how to call collect from Europe to Canada? 1-800-Collect is only good for calling to the states and you can’t even dial out from Europe when using it.
Also, if I want to call home from Europe and my number is, for example, 416-555-2345 would the number look like: 00-1-416-555-2345
How much does it cost to call from London to Canada from a payphone? (If I don’t get a calling card, just a straight call and are there any other extra numbers that I need to dial besides the 00 and 1?)
Thanks!

Hi there!
I’m thinking about going on a tour in late February 2010 but I don’t know which one to pick! European Wanderer and European Vista pretty much see the same sites except that the Vista is 3 days shorter (and cheaper). My goal in going on this trip is to see as much as I can without being rushed – have time to spend in each city, see the highlights, museums ect and still get the full cultural experience. I’d also like to extend my stay once the tour completes so I can check out other places not included on the tour.
However, I’m going solo! Would you recommend backpacking solo once the tour concludes or should I just trust that there will probably be other contiki people to tag along with to backpack once the tour completes? I’ve never traveled alone or backpacked before which is why I’m a little apprehensive about the backpacking portion. I’ve always wanted to go backpacking and I figure now is my chance!
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi,
I know this topic has been talked about…this weekend I went to buy adapters for my trip this August!
I was told by the sales clerk, it is better to by the adapter kits in the UK rather then buy one in Canada. His reasoning behind it, is the adapters in the UK or Europe are much better and are guaranteed to work.
Has anyone that his told to him/her before! I want an adapter for my rechargable batteries, flat iron and ipod…I didn’t think it was this diffcult of a proces.

I’m thinking about doing the Great Britian and Ireland tour, ‘cause it sounds like something I’ve ALWAYS wanted to do…. but I see you can only bring like one suitcase…. is there anywhere to do laundry?
Do people just spend most of the time partying, or is it like a nice balance of everything? And is it normally pretty evenly split, guys and girls? And are most of the people on the tour american, or is it a nice mix?
Ack, sorry… lots of annoying questions…

Hi There,
I’m just seeing if anyone out there went on the Simply Italy trip and remembers the name of – or has any information on the Lace School in Venice that we went to for a demonstration? I wrote Contiki and asked, but haven’t heard anything back. Basically, I got something there for my MIL, it got ruined, and I’d really like to try to replace it for her.
Thanks in advance!

Hi all.
Since we South Africans are all a bunch of communist terrorists, we have to organise visas everywhere we go :-)
I was advised by a contiki consultant to get an Italian Schengen Visa. I can live with that idea, but it still bothers me that as far as I can see, we enter the Schengen area through France. So with France being my port of entry, why not a Schengen Visa issued by the French?
Also, what about some sort of Visa for the UK? The plane lands in Heathrow and since there are no connection flights from there to anywhere, it means I will have to leave the international terminal. Again, this would conctitute a Visa for a communist bastard like myself. Im hoping someone will tell me this before I actually strap by ass into the steel tube of death.

Hi,
I am doing the Western Highlights and California Highlights tours in 2010 with my boyfriend.
Have any other people been on tours where there have been other couples? Is it still good?
As my boyfriend thinks it will be awkward as he knows Contiki to be “singles” mainly.
Any advice also on what to pack as going in Sep/Oct 2010 -graemlin::)—>

Hello!
My sister and I are about to book the Wild Western tour, but I was after a bit of advice on the food situation as I have a serious nut allergy!
If anyone has any tips or just a basic overview of how the included meals work, where you go for these etc.
Any advice welcome and thank you in advance!
xx
