I’m curious to know what people wish they’d known before they went on their trips, and only discovered afterwords…
For example,
Did you miss something in a town you wish you’d known about?
Did you pack something, and never used it?
Did you need something you didn’t pack and had to go in search of it?
In particular, looking for different advice to what is already available on the board…share you experience so others can learn from you ‘mistake’.
Thanks

I am wondering if there is anyone who could help me out with understanding seat reservations for eurail passes. I am heading on contiki for 11 days and on the last part of our trip we bought a eurail pass, and I dont know if i should reserve seats here in australia, or wait until i’m in europe. Any advise would be great!

Hi I had some questions for anyone who has done the scuba diving optional in Cairns. I recently got PADI certified but I didn’t have a very good experience and now I am a little apprehensive to dive again. Can you tell me how deep your dive(s) were/how long you stayed underwater? Do you have an instructor/guide that is there watching out for you? I’ve heard that diving can be dangerous if you’ve been drinking recently, did anyone find this to be an issue on the contiki trips? Also, did anyone take underwater pictures, and if so what kind of equipment did you need? I have an underwater case for my digital camera but have heard that you need external flashes etc. Any advice?
Some other random questions:
Do any of the hotels/accomodations have gyms?
I’ve read on other forums that the best way to make purchases is with credit cards or by withdrawing money from an atm frequently. Can anyone tell me if there are fees everytime you purchase something/make a withdrawal? If so, approximately how much?

I’m a 27 year old who is looking to travel to Australia in the beginning of July. Is anyone else planning a trip with that criteria? Do you know the age group that typically goes on a trip like this? Thanks!

Hey guys, I know that bungy jumping is an optional offered to Contiki travelers. Last year I did all three jumps in Queenstown New Zealand.
I’ve got videos on my blog, check it out and get a taste of what you could be doing.

Hi Guys, im thinking of doing a contiki tour to europe in the next year or so and there was just a few questions i wanted to ask.
How much money do you think would be enough spending money. Im the type of person who looovves to shop and would want to buy something everywhere i go. Also from people who have done then, is a 10 day or 21 day tour better? I dont want to be on the bus the whole time and only spend like a couple of hours exploring.
Hopefully someone can share their opinions!!

Does anyone know of a cheaper option than left luggage at Heathrow (its $10 AUD per 24 hours) to store excess luggage while on Contiki tour which is easy to access from Heathrow? Any information is much appreciated!

Hey guys,
I’m after some advice as to what to pack for my Grand Southern trip, NY to LA, November 30 to Dec 23. I have five days in NY by myself before the trip, what sort of clothes will I need? And what about for the rest of the trip? I have no idea what to expect weather-wise.

I have 15 days to use.
Will take either the 5 day octoberfest and then tour around for another 10 days on my own or go on the european horizons tour (12 days) and spend a few more in london.
I’ll be travelling alone but it doesn’t bother me. 24/M.

Hello ![]()
Ive recently done a contiki in Canada and now im hungry for more!
Ive already decided i want to do europe next and i want to spend a while there (at least 4 weeks) and two big trips really intrest me, they are;
46 days Europe Camping (camping) and
45 days ultimate european (concept)
Both seem like huge trips compared to the 11 day trip i just did in Canada but i was hoping for some comparison between the who by people who have done them before
Anything i would expect to enounter differently on the two trips would be great, such as- money, attitude, age range, food, accommodation
Any input would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone is thinking about going on the Northern Explorer in June/July 2009? Or if anyone has been on the tour and can recommend it? I would love to see some photos from the tour. I can’t seem to find a lot about this tour, so if anyone could let me know where I can, that would be great. As this will be my first time overseas and travelling with Contiki, I am a bit nervous (as I’m travelling alone) but also very excited. The date of the tour is the 24th June 2009 to 6th July 2009. I will be flying into LA on the 18th and catching up with friends before boarding the Amtrack Train from LA to Chicago arriving just before the tour starts (night before). Will then spend a few more days in LA before heading home. That’s the plan anyway…I am going to book my flights and tour in the next few weeks (as my travel agent said to wait) until there are a few more flights available (cheapest deal, hopefully!). Anyway would love to hear from you.
Cheers, Kylie
