Hi Everyone,
I live in the US and I am doing the London to Athens in June and debating what form of currency is best and safest. Any opinions? I know that certain credit card companies and banks charge you extra for out of country exchanges. Would it be cheaper to do ATM and have that one time charge, or easier to use your debit/credit card at the stores and restaurants? I don’t want to travel with $3000 I have budgeted for a 25 day trip. I’m open to suggestions. Thanks for all and any help!
P.S. Yes, I am super excited about the trip. I will be my first Contiki.

When travelling on a Contiki tour, can you get your passport stamped each time you enter a new country on your tour?

hi all
im just wondering about the Grand Southern tour please how much time do u actually spend in LA and NY?? i know we dont actually stay there overnight its just a visit but i really want to see both states in full! Do u think it would be worth doing the LA and NY explorer before and after the GS? Or take a few days and do it on my own?
I will be travelling alone so anyone looking at doing the same tour around feb/ mar 2010 id love to hear from you! Im 25 from Adelaide!
Any other info about the GS from ppl who have been there and done it id appreciate anything ive never been overseas and any useful helpful info would be fantastic!
Cheers every one

Where abouts does contiki stay when on Corfu?
been doing research about the nightlife and i’ve come to the conclusion that Kavos is the place to be for nightlife while on Corfu.
Is there taxi/bus services that go from the main town to Kavos all night??
How is the nightlife in terms of clubs and bars in the main town?

I’m planning on going to the European Magic tour in late September (so I can be in Munich for Oktoberfest) and was supposed to go with two friends, who bailed on me last minute…so I’m going on ahead and going alone…
few questions…
1. Does the “group” usually hang out together and do the touristy stuff? (gondola ride, eiffel tower, etc…)
2. If I decided to break away and do my own thing, does Contiki provide you with maps (so I don’t get lost) and is it safe for a girl to be walking around alone…I’m a born New Yorker and have my street smarts, but hello, I’m alone in Europe!
I’m just getting last mintue jitters, and I’m sure I’ll be fine, but answers to those questions will definitly let my mind rest a bit

Hello all ![]()
I have had a look through the website and have seen many discussions on this topic but just wanted to find out for sure what the go is!
I cant decide whether a one strap over the shoulder type backpack will be better or a messenger type bag ? For my day bag that is ?Does anyone have any opinions on this ? I am leaning towards the messenger bag, as this seems easier for girls though i think the idea of the one strap shoulder bag is good.
Also i will be leaving for mexico about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks before my tour and will not be home to recieve my contiki documents..! Do they definitely arrive 2 weeks before (I heard 21 days before but that will be too my travel agent i presume) I would hate to miss them !
Thanks Heaps ![]()

I’m doing the Winter Wanderer leaving on Dec 17th. In the highlights info it says we do an evening tour of illuminations and get to see the Eiffel tower. My question is do we get a chance to go up the Eiffel Tower then or not. It just that a friend of mine at work went last christmas and she said that you definitely have to go up at night and because I’m doing the Moulin Rouge the next night if I’m going to do it it will have to be that first night. Any one that has been on a previous winter wander or winter tour that can help me out?
Thanks, Bek.

I’ve read in the blogs that it’s not a major problem if one misses the pre-departure meeting. My flight will be getting into London-Gatwick around 5-6pm, after which I will be taking a train probably to Victoria station. Since the tour leaves London early the next morning, I would like to at least see SOME of London the night I arrive. Thus, I essentially have two options: 1) Hop on a “Night Tour” bus upon arriving in Central London and missing the pre-departur meeting at the hotel, but at least getting to see some of London, or 2) Checking into the hotel and attending the meeting, hoping to head out afterwards for a late-night tour, or risk possibly not seeing any of London at all.
If I go for option one and miss the meeting, check into my room late, etc., what might be the “consequences,” if any?
Any advice or recommendations would be hugely appreciated!!! Thanks!!!!!

I’m aware the trips are mostly for peopleages 18-35 but as i browse through pictures i am noticing that everyone looks towards the 35 side. I am 21 and i’m wondering if my age group will be the minority.

HELLO fellow contikists… i am thinking about going on the Europe Camping (46 days) … now i want to know a couple of things..
1. Is it a good tour..
2. How much spending money should i take?
3. When you travel from Sorrento to Corfu do you travel by ship?
4. How much money all up would i need to travel the tour comfortably.?
This is all so exciting.

This is my personal opionion of a Contiki tour. Some people might mistake this for a venting rant but so what?!
I am on one of Contiki’s wonderful budget tours as I write this and i can’t wait till this this is over. If you are looking for a party, drunken rowdiness, remembering Europe just as a blur or possible from the picture u take of the coach then YES< this tour would be for U! On the other hand U were thinking u are going to enjoy the sights, food & everything important Europe has to offer u will be very disappointed. Myself personally, i’m no prima donna, I wasn’t expecting to stay at a 4star hotel but on that same note i didn’t expect do have drunken morons burst in my room everynight at 2-3 even 4am screaming at the top of their lungs!!!! And let me tell u about the contiki cough… it’s not just any cough. It hits u deep in your chest so not only will u be stuck on the a bus half full of idiots but u’ll also be sick as a dog. Just an FYI as well u’ll be spending more time on the coach then u will in any city. After a while u really start to feel like just another sheep! I wish i had the guts to go backpacking instead of paying all that money to be miserable. And if you this i’m one in few… there are at least 10 other people on my tour that feel ripped of by Contiki. So what odds does that leave u with 1 in 5. Think twice!!! have u notice how there are so few if any bad reviews on these forums. I asked myself this quistion but only after my tour was already booked. Like i said this is just my 2 cents!!!

I use my credit card for almost everything here in Canada. I dont like to carry cash. Im doing the Euro magic next month and im wondering how much cash to take. Im reading 100 euros a day is good. Id rather just throw it on credit card. I can see most shops taking credit card, not sure about restaurants. The only places I see myself needing cash is tips and for optional tours and of course the BARS!
Any advice would be nice ![]()
Thanks!

I think I’ve run into some confusion during the booking process. Does Contiki require travel insurance for the European Magic tour? Are there levels and types of coverage they require?
I’ve already got international medical and liability/theft coverage, so I don’t want to pay for duplicate cover if it’s not needed. I’m not super worried about trip cancellation/interruption coverage.
Normally I’d try to call and confirm, but I suspect it’ll be hard to reach anyone this week. Thanks!
