What is the best type of clothing to bring, I know people say to bring tops that can mix and match with bottoms, because of the weight restriction. Did you ever wear the same top twice? And what about dressy clothing and shoes for the nights out?

I would like to do the GRAND SOUTHERN leaving 5 July 2008, but I’m not allowed to go when I’m the only one from Belgium in the group. Because we have to go on our own to LA I’m looking for someone who does the same trip so we can maybe book the same flight.

Hi there. I just picked up my intinerary and travel documentation from contiki for my Euro Escapade tour departing Sept 13. i was reading my documentation and it said for my tour, i will be needing to bring a sleeping bag and a day bag for the overnight stops?
my travel agent told me that i didn’t have to bring a sleeping bag.

also, the day bag, i thought the bus would drive us to our hotel, unload our suitcases and we’d bring them to the hotel room and use them, as suppose to me taking out clothes i think i will wear, plus toiletries and carry them in a bag seperate from the bag i’ll carry with me throughout the day to keep my documents in and maybe a water bottle and a pack of gum

i’m a bit confuded. right now, i’m seeing it as me bringing 1. my suitase 2. my carry on bag 2. a sleeping bag 4. a day bag for overnight stops and 5. my water and pack of gum bag.

please tell me i’m wrong as this is A LOT to be carrying. i’m trying to travel light

Thanks! Smiler

Hi

Im looking to head to Europe in June 10’ I know its a long way off but I like to plan early… Im looking at encounter and road to Athens…. I like encounter as its does Amsterdam but I also like road to Athens as its includes the Greek Islands. I was thinking more towards the Road to Athens and just spending a couple of nights in Amsterdam myself as I’m already planning to spend a couple of days in London before the tour starts. Anybody have any suggestions.

Thanks

So I’m going on the Euro Discovery on 6/20 and we will be going to Italy. Does anyone know of any good opera house that I can go to? Or if it’s even possible to do something like this. I’d like to see an opera in Italy.

Howdy,

Am doing the euro inspiration in july and will be meeting up with three friends in amsterdam (one a local) whilst there. I’m just wondering approx what time we’ll arrive and depart, whether it would be possible to do my own thing with my friends whilst there (except for the optional dinner cruise I’m SO there). Is it possible to bring others onto that cruise? I don’t want ppl to think “she’s blowing the tour group off” but I really wanna spend time with my friends whilst there. I know there’s a bike tour but is it possible to just meet up with the tour later? Anyone got any thoughts to share? How much FREE time do we have? Also, anyone know the hotel that contiki uses in amsterdam???

Thanks for the advice peeps xoxo Smiler

I will be making a couple of connections during my long trip to London in June. Does anyone have good advice on how to adjust to the new timezone? Sleeping on the flight? Anything would be helpful.

Hi,

I am doing the eastern discovery tour next Feb before heading to London to live and work.

I will be taking lots of luggage, i.e. work clothes, etc… for life in London but don’t necessarily want to lug it around the US.

Can anyone recommend ways of either storing luggage at JFK in NY or shipping separately?

Confused
Hi I am planning on doing the Canada & the Rockies then straight after I am doing the Wild Western in July 2008. I am alittle confused whether to start/finsih the canada tour in Seattle or Vancouver. I have a couple of days apart from both of the tours and unsure what do to as I am spending time either in LA or Seattle/Vancouver. Any suggestions would be a great help.
Cheers Smiler

Does anyone know (that has been on a Contiki trip before) how much I should budget for postcards and stamps? How much does a postcard cost? How much do stamps cost? I leave on Sunday for my Road to Athens tour, and this is the only aspect that my mom and I have not budgeted for…

Hey guys,
I know this question has been asked alot but im going to ask it again but more specific to my tour.

I really want to do the 46day camping trip next yr…. but the money for spending is worrying me. I hear 100 euro a day, but for a 46 day tour this would be about $9000 aud i would need to save just to spend! If I only have a few at night (as im not a big drinker, and mainly have wine or vodka), what would be the appropriate amount i would be able to get away with. Especially because this is a camping tour, and such a long one at that.

I know, it seems abit repetative but im thinking I won’t be able to afford it now (the airfare, and the tour are sweet as… just in the spending money department). All the books i have read on europe say to allow approx 10Euro per day for lunch, then have 5Euro for coffee a day, and make sure you have 1 dinner out in each city about 40euro.

I have read alot on here that we should do all the optionals aswell if we can afford it, but i was wondering too, whether the show in Paris was worth it, or should I book myself in to see the Moulin Rouge instead ?

Another Question… I am no longer a student when i go on the tour, but i am thinking about getting one of those international youth cards through STA travel. It says you save on entry prices to museums etc but doesn’t say which ones. Has anyone ever used one on a contiki and are they worth it? Also… region specific, i have heard alot about cards which offer discounted rates to alot of museums and monuments etc, does anyone know about these? or where i could buy them etc.

Another question…. I’m sorry there is so many, but does anyone know the price of the royal national per night in australian dollars? I have read about a place called easyhotel which is about $60 a night but it might be a fair way away from where we are supposed to meet.

Lastly, I plan to be travelling for 11 – 12 weeks in total. After contiki I will be going to Czech, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Ireland, Wales and Scotland to stay with friends. I am also unsure how much i should budget in these places given that i wont need to pay for accommodation (although i would like to give some money if i can).

And has anyone sent anything home via post whilst they have been on tour?

Ohhh 1 last thing…. Am I able to leave my tour in Belgium on the final day?

I think thats all i can think of for now…. any info would help ALOT!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
