Forgive me for bringing up the topic of money – I know a lot has been discussed before. I have had conflicting advice about what to take to Europe in terms of money. I already have a debit and Visa card. I am planning on taking at least a couple hundred in each currency to get me started.
My first question – Is it necessary to have a second debit card as backup (from another bank)? I was wondering if the potential of having your debit card eaten by an ATM is high.
Secondly, is it better to convert a lot of money here in Canada before I go, or take a small amount and withdraw more money from ATM’s in Europe?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hiya everyone, well im deciding on doing the London to Athens tour prob mid May 09 to end of June 09 on my own, and am a little concerned with the label “Budget” tour. Im not expecting flash places to stay, or restaurant meals ect… but have heard comments that the cabins are small, and the meals not as great as they are made out on the brochures that are offered in the food fund.
Im really excited about all the places the London to Athens tour visits and am wondering if i should upgrate to the Hotel tour BUT was concerned only COUPLES do this tour and im going to be doing this SOLO…..?!!! Also i cant decide if i should jst go from Rome to Athens and do greek island hopping??
sorry for all the questions?
Oh another, would i need a sleeping bag during those months, will the weather be warmer than NZ summer? Also we have cabins to sleep in aboard the ferry across to Athens – i think – ?
i believe that is all for now!!! please help im a big undecided as you no doubt can tell lol ![]()

Hi I am currently booked in to do 2 tours. When the first tour finishes in Rome, my next tour has already started 2 days prior (but is still in rome). I am required to join up with the tour in Rome prior to them leaving Rome the next morning. Has anyone done this before? Contiki said it’s not a problem, but will it be hard for me to find the other tour? What is the liklihood of both tours being in the same hotel? And also, should I try and joim them the night before or the breakfast of the day we leave Rome?
Sorry for so many questions, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a question for all those who have done the egypt trip or who may know the answer. I am looking at booking the december 28-jan 6 tour, but I cannot leave New York until late that night which means I will not get into Cairo until 7pm the following day. I already know that I will miss the pre-tour meeting (not a big deal really) but i do want to know if there will still be a contiki representative there to get me through customs??

Hey guys,
Ive been finally waiting to get my hands on the 2008-09 euro contiki book and finally got it today. Unfortunately.. after waiting forever for the book to come out i see that for the Ultimate European Romania has been taken out!!! One of the main reasons I wanted to do this tour was because of Romania!!! Why has this country been taken out??? =(.. looks like contiki is not the way for me next year!.

I know a lot of the tours in Australia join together at some point. I’m doing the Beaches and Reefs Reverse tour and was wondering which other tours will be joining. Aussie Explorer, Cairns Sunshine Trail, …? How often will the group be changing?

I have my sights set on going to London & Paris, London/Paris/Amsterdam, or London/Paris/Rome sometime in 2007 – preferably around the end of may/early June. I am single and my friends are extremely unreliable, so I am considering just joining the tour solo. It’s time to stop living my life by other people’s schedules. I’ve only traveled in groups before, and even then it was difficult to bond with others as they tended to “buddy up”.
It seems as though everyone says it’s fine to go solo, and that everyone makes new friends, but is this the case on most tours or just some? I have a tendency to be a bit shy around new people, and would hate to feel lonely in such a big group. Could anyone provide any advice about traveling alone? I’d really appreciate it, thanks!
