How do people go about bringing money on these trips? Do most people just use their Credit card for most things? Do people still use travlers checks? Are American ATM cards usable in Europe? Thanks!!!

Hi …I want to send my son on this trip in December..he has not travelled much before.

1) The travel agent said that the tube would be the best option to take from Heathrow to Royal National..bit worried tho’..wouldn’t a pre-arranged transfer be easier..any suggestions?

2) When the trip ends in London…are the travellers dropped off at different locations? eg. Heathrow, Royal National?

3) What time does the European Magic tour end in London? Would it be better to spend the night at Royal National and leave the next day or fly straight back home..He is not planning on extending his trip.

Any ideas/suggestions would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey everyone!

I’m in the middle of my March trip preparations & I’m looking into the suitcase situation. The Contiki book gives the specifications of the suitcase we can take as 73cmX50cmX25cm. How strict are they on this? If I have a case that it 3cm bigger will they disallow it? I don’t want a disastrous start to the tour. Also how big can your carry-on luggage be? Thanks!

Hi guys,

finally saved up enough money to get over to Oz, I live in Scotland so it’s not the shortest of journeys! My family in Sydney have told me about the Con Tiki tours but looks like they cant get time off to come with me on one. Heading over mid September – mid October, think the weather will be good then, pretty sure I would melt in a full on Aussie summer.

Just wanted to hear some stories from anyone who’s been on the Best of Australia tour (pretty sure thats the one I want to do), from reading the posts here it seems going on the tours alone isn’t a problem as everyone gets along (no Big Brother style arguments after a couple of days stuck together then! hehe). Guess what I’m really looking for is some re-assurance that this is the best way to see Australia and well worth the money (600 + extras, lets say about 800 is roughly the same as what my flights there will cost so want to make sure it’ll be worth it).

Also if anyone else is heading over at the same time and thinking of doing this tour it’d be cool to hear from you.

Cheers Smiler

I’m sure this one has been beaten to death. But has anyone been to Europe during the last half of October that can make a coat recommendation?

I will be doing Berlin to Budapest then on to Switzerland until Oct 31st. I want to pack light and don’t really want to take a heavy coat.

I was thinking a Spring/Fall coat and just wearing a sweater/hoodie underneath if it’s cold. I also don’t get cold very easily.

Hi, my name is Jessica. Ive booked Sydney Scene and Aussie Explorer for Jan 2009. Im a scuba diver and I was wondering if anyone knew if I could do 30 to 40 foot dives with just my swim suit or am I going to need a wet suit? This is my first time traveling like this. Traveling to the other side of the world by myself. As a little girl this was my dream to see the great barrier reef. Its booked and now I going to see it!! I just have to wait a year…lol. Any help would be great.

Can someone that has went to Stonehenge through Contiki answer some questions for me? On the website it said that it cost 6.5 Pounds. I am assuming that does not take into account the transportation to get there? How long does the tour take? Is it worth it?

When in LA, if you have the time, try and check out Olvera Street, the oldest part of downtown LA, and an amazing cultural experience. It’s a large mexican marketplace, with amazing people, shopping, food, and experiences. Just take some time and wonder around, taking it all in and watching the street performers. It is directly across the street from the main entrance/exit of Union Station.

Has anyone done a good general day tour of LA… or would it be better to try and do it yourself?

Is it possible to break off from tour for a day? I’m doing a highlights tour and have been looking at the possibility of splitting from the tour in Munich and getting an overnight sleeper to Amsterdam, bypassing the rhine valley overnight stop. I was just wondering if a) this is possible, and b) do the tour staff get annoyed if people do this?

Hi,

im planning on doing the eastern discovery next summer (june/july/august 09). i was thinking of flying to new orleans and having a few days there before the tour starts to get used to the time difference (im in the UK), and then spending time in new york afterwards. is it worth doing the new york tour afterwards or just doing sight seeing yourself (there are 2 of us going)? thanks
