Just wanted to get some feedback on the Grand Explorer trip. We want to go in June, but how is the weather? The trip has lots of things to do in the water, but won’t it be too cold for that? Do you think it is worth it to go in June? (both of us don’t ski). Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

has anyone been on any 3 week or more tour and took a zipped wheeled luggage bag that got stuck and you couldnt open it up?

Hi,
We are doing the Wild Western tour starting May 30th. In Bass Lake the accomodation is quadshare. We will be on our honeymoon and would like our own room. Is there an opportunity to pay a little more to have this as an option or would it be best to book directly through the Hotel in Bass Lake and pay for another room?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Kathryne

I am 24 years old and getting pretty excited about going on this “Ultimate European”, 47 day tour. I am leaving on May 11th. I am looking for anyone that has done this tour or that may be going on it. It would be good to hear that a lot of people do this by themselves… for me, that is going to be the scariest thing about it… but that also makes it more exciting.
Is their any advice anyone wants to give me to totally prepare for this?
Yippie….. I cant wait!!!

Hi! I’m booked on a tour of the South Island in September. I’m not sure what type of jacket I should buy. I’ve seen a few with an outer shell (like a rain coat), with a polar fleece inner coat that can be attached to the outer shell. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I just wanted some advice. i did the Aussie Explorer tour almost 7 years ago by myself. I had the time of my life and have always wanted to go back to OZ.
I’m getting married in June and am thinking of doing the tour again with my new Husband! He has never been to Australia and we feel this would be the most stress free way of traveling.
I have a dilemma though as I keep thinking i should do something different to what i did before, and it might not be the same if i go again.
But on the other hand it will be like seeing it through my partners eyes, and will be a different experience travelling with him.
We also want to have a week in Thailand before we start – just have a bit of time alone and chill out after wedding.
What are your thoughts on what we should do, and have any of you done the same tour twice???
Thanks…Kate

Hi All,
I just booked two Contiki tours, Ultimate Europe and Russia&Scandi.
I am planning to bring my Mobile-phone (Tri-band, unlocked) for the trip, so I can call Canada.
I know ekit sells different kind internation Roaming SIM cards, but the base rate is already 0.99USD/minute, and depends on other countries you may visit, the rate can be even higher.
Do you guys know if this rate already cover the long-distance fee from europe to Canada, or it’s only the cost the air-time, I have to add the long distance cost additonal.
I was wondering if there are some cheaper alternative, such as Vodafone. I know their network cover a lot countries in Europe. However both of my tours probably cover even more countries (26) in Europe. I am kind struggled about which mobile plan should I choose.
Thanks alot

My sister and I are planning a trip next summer to oz and New Zealand I’ll be 24 but she won’t turn 18 till a couple weeks after we get home. She home schools and doesn’t drink, and is very sheltered, I’m worried she won’t have any fun, If the group goes to a bar or club or something will she be able to come to? Whats the legal age in Australia?

Hi, I’m thinking of booking either the northern highlights or the scenic southern, havent decided which one yet but both start on the 2nd December 2007, this is the first contiki i will have ever been on and will travel alone just wandering if anyone else here is going on any of these tours and will be travelling alone? Also wandering if anyone who has already been on these tours can provide some advice to help me decide which one to pick… my only concern is that i cant swim, so will this be a huge problem?

I’ve got kind of a dumb question but i figure I might as well ask it anyways.
I’m wondering where our luggage is kept when we’re out doing optional activities and what not. Does it stay in the bus, in the hostel, with us?
The reason I’m asking is that my office is sending me to work in New-Zealand for a week so I figured I might as well take an extra week at my own expense visit a little bit considering that the plane tickets are payed for anyways and New-Zealand is essentially on the other side of the world for me. However it also means I will have to bring my work laptop with me when I fly over there.
Being that I’m not all that familiar with youth hostel and organised tour I’m no so sure how to go about keeping that expensive piece of electronics secured throughout the vacation part of my trip; namely the Contiki trip I requested that will hopefully still have spots available (fingers crossed).
I guess I could also try to get a safety box at the airport on in some hotel however I’m not certain if such a thing still exists.
Anyways, any and all input on the matter is appreciated
Thx
Pat

Hey everyone, I’ve travelled with Contiki and would like to offer some advice:
If you plan on taking a credit card to Europe, you may want to call your credit card company to let them know you’ll be travelling so they don’t think the card has been stolen and cut you off.
Another thing I recommend is carrying your cash in a money belt, I find it safer.
Plan on spending $100-$150 USD per day. You’ll have to buy lunches daily, souveneirs, some dinners and going out at night. You should try exchanging money before you leave. You’ll have to chance to do so on the tour, but easier to get that part out of the way and have one less thing to worry about.
When you pack, throw some clothing into your carry-on to lighten the weight of the suitcase and in case your luggage gets lost. Leave room for souveneirs & carry with you an extra copy of your pasport and hotel address list.
In terms of weight of luggage, it’s the airlines that are more strict than Contiki. Each airline has their own weight threshold & will only be too glad to charge you extra for going over. You can find out the limit/rules by going on the airline’s website.
Feel free to ask me anything else.

so I’ve been looking at some of the photos posted in the european photos section and it looks like every other picture is of people partying and drinking. I don’t see a whole lot of sight seeing/scenery/etc. I’m guesing these photos probably aren’t representative of the typical trip, or I could be mistaken.
