Just wondering if anyone is scheduled for departure on June 22nd or June 28th from Southern U.S. I’m from New Orleans, La and looking for someone that might have the same flight to London. Don’t really want to have to take the train and taxi alone. You can email me at hatylo9@lsu.edu Thanks! Smiler

Hey,

My partner and I are looking to do European Vista (winter) in Jan 2011, and we are just starting to buy all the bits and pieces we’ll need.

We’re currently trying to make decisions about day/overnight bags…

A few questions:
1. As a couple, how would we go sharing a day bag? In a normal situation at home, we would share, which makes us think we would be fine sharing.

2. How risky is it having a backpack as our day bag, security wise? Should we lock the main compartment? Or how about even locking it and then also using a rain cover over the top for an extra shield (plus protection against rain/snow obviously)…

3. What did YOU use for a day bag? How many litres capacity?

Thanks Smiler

I mainly want to see LA, the theme parks, studio/hollywood tours, shop and bars/clubs.

In LV i want to see the Casinos and bars/clubs, maybe even visit Area 51/Groom Lake.

Should i take a contiki tour, or should i get my own accomodation and sight-see myself? Maybe rent a car?

Im thinking about this money wise, it’s just that the contiki tours that are worth going on, dont stay in each state long enough. I would love to do one of the tours that stops across a bunch of states, but i really want to see LA/LV the most.

Would paying for my own accomodation/plus sight seeing myself end up costing more than a contiki tour?

Or is it maybe an idea to go for 2/3 weeks and do a contiki tour, and spend a whole week to myself sight seeing?

Any advice and help appreciated.

I’m still debating on what to do for money.
The ATM card seems the best bet so far. My bank said they charge
$1.50 for ATM fees outside the US +the current exchange rate for that day. My only concern is the ATM fees in Europe.
What do they charge for using them? Also, do merchants take Mastercard Debit Cards and if they do, do they charge fees?
Thanks.

I’m thinking of staying in Athens the weekend before my trip, a nice 3 days of just sinking in that I finally made it to Greece, you know?

Anybody has advice on good but not too expensive hotels? I looked online but it’s really hard to figure out which area is safe or not…..

Hey guys!
My partner and I are planning for a Winter Vista next season. The main thing concerning us with winter travel is the possibility of getting stuck somewhere in the snow and missing out on places due to road closures etc. Does this happen much? Coming from New Zealand I know how much the weather can disrupt even the best laid plans.. Are the roads pretty good over there and kept open during the snowy weather?

Cheers
Ben

Hi all,

I’m really sorry to ask another money question here but I did a search and couldn’t find anything that answered my question…

I’m off on the European Encounter in November. I will be in London for a week prior to the tour and will be travelling to the US for around 10 days after the tour. This will mean I need three different currencies for the trip. My question is, what do I do about money? I’m a bit confused (first time traveller) and not sure whether to get three different cash passport cards for each currency, get one of those Wizard credit cards and load all my money on there (will it switch between countries easily?) get travellers cheques in all currencies… etc etc!

Any suggestions/ideas???

Your help is much appreciated!!!!!!

P.S. forgot to mention I’m in Australia

Hi everyone,

I’m doing Mediterranean Highlights in November and wanted to see what people thought about and have experienced with the optionals.

I’m going to list the ones on the tour below along with the prices and my initial and personal thoughts….

Also what’s included in the meals? I’m assuming not wine, but what about water?

Roman Pizza Evening – EUR20. Early on, not too expensive, up for it as a social thing, great way to meet the group.

Imperial Tour – EUR26. Ok, this is very personal but I was lucky enough to do Latin at school and have been to the Forum and Colliseum before, but… would be worth it to go again if the guide is good and the Colisseum entrance is included.

Space Electronic Disco: EUR13. From the accounts I’ve read, this is a very cheesy club. Which sounds perfect.

Tuscan Dinner – EUR38/Monaco – EUR34. I’m really not sure about this. I’m veggie and I’ve heard contrasting experiences on this. But EUR38 for a veggie meal sounds excessive.

Tablao de Carmen. EUR 56. I’ve heard very contrasting opinions about this. What do people think?

Los Galayos – EUR33. Not a clue what’s involved here, is it a dinner?

Valley of the Fallen – EUR 13. This sounds pretty cool, should be in for this.

Sorry if I’m coming across as a cheapskate or a killjoy. I’m not. Seriously.

But we’ve got a limited amount of time in each place, when’s there’s so much to potentially see, so I don’t want to be wasting my time or cash on something that’s not for me.

Cheers

Neil

Hello,

I was wondering what is the cheapest way to get from the Gatwick airport to central london (then to my hotel) I was looking at hotelink and its quite expeinsive at 22 pounds but I was also comparing it to taking the Gatwick express and then transfering at Victoria station and going from there and together it is  (14 pounds for gatwick express plus 3 pounds at Victoria to take the underground) which comes out to be 17 pounds total, any other cheap ways to get to where i need to go? I ask this because, I will be flying to London and staying for a few days before i fly to france to work, and then flying back to london to start my euro CONTRASTS tour. I dont want to spend my life savings on just transport. i wanna eat too.

Thanks,

Steven

ok, so im not exactly concerned what the full capacity of the tours are (i assume the same as the contiki australia i have previously been on) but i wasnt sure what title to give this.

im just wondering if anyone has been on one of these in july before and how many people typically were on it. i know it’s winter in NZ during july, so im not sure if thats a big time for the tours to be crowded (because everyone in the north takes vacations then) or what.

just wondering if anyone has any previous experience on a july or august trip to nz.

I’ve seen one or two pictures of hotel rooms contikis have stayed in during their European travels – they look VERY different from most American hotels. A few hopefully-not-too-stupid questions:

Do most of the hotel rooms have a clock / alarm clock?
How about a/c?
Iron and ironing board?
I plan to do some wash in the bathroom sink every few days – do the bathrooms have shower bars I can drape clothes on to dry?

Thanks for your help!

Has anyone travelled to both countries doing two tours? (Europe & Australia)

I was thinking of either doing the winter wanderer or the Aussie explorer or mixing and matching two tours traveling to Europe and either Australia or New Zealand for the second part of a tour.

Anyone have any advice on what to do? Thinking of traveling in Jan 07.

Thanks

Hey,
I’m going traveling for approx 4 months and I’m a nurse so I am having trouble cutting down the size of my first aid kit. … The “just incase” exucse keeps coming in with most things. What have most people taken os when going for extended times?
I even bought myself a ‘basic first aid kit’ to see what is “basic” but couldn’t help but add more things to it!
Any suggestions?
Thanks. Mel Smiler
