Hi Guys.
First time Contiki traveller here gearing up for my European Encounter in Jan 07 SOLO.
I was wondering if it is worth bringing my laptop. It’s only small (12") and would be really handy for downloading photos and keeping my travel diary etc. I’m confident that it will fit in my day pack and it doesn’t really weigh too much. I’m just worried about security I guess.
Anybody taken a laptop before? Any suggestions?
Cheers ![]()

Hi everyone,
I am thinking of doing the New York New Year at the end of the year (planning it early I know but trying to arrange time off work). Just wondering what people who have done it thought of it?
Also just wondering what people did for new years eve itself? I was wondering if you do anything more than just going to times square because I’ve heard you have to stand there from like 2pm?? Or do you go somewhere in particular?
Anyway anything you could tell me about the trip would be muchly appreciated!
Happy New Year!

I have traveled extensively around Europe and other parts of the world. My advice is to travel alone or with a friend/friends; you will get MUCH more out of your experience than being herded around like sheep on a tour, visiting only tourist spots and only meeting other people (probably from your own country) who are also on the tour (and probably are not very interesting/adventurous themselves either, being that they travel only on tours). Tours are for tourists, not for real travelers. The only reason to even consider one is if you think you are traveling to someplace that might be dangerous, or if you don’t want to plan your own itinerary, but if you have this mentality (especially about Europe) then you are better off not traveling.

So I have a block off of time from dec 21st to the 6th of jan. I want to do the Grand Adventurer (Explorer starts too early). Any one experience with christmas and these tours? Is it likely to get cancelled? Thanks

Hi!
I’m going to be on the Egypt & the Nile November 9-18 trip, and wanted to see if anyone else would be on the same flight as me. I know a few people at least are from the NYC area, and I’m flying out of JFK on Egyptair on Nov. 9th at 6:30 (which gets in on Nov. 10th in Egypt in the morning). If anyone is on this flight, let me know and maybe we can meet up! Or if anyone else wants to post flight details that may be a good idea!

If I was looking at doing a tour next June, then I have to wait until the dates/brochure for next year come out before I can book. And this isn’t till mid way though October.
Is this right?
Thanks

Hey all,
I sent the Moulin rouge an email asking how I could make a booking (my tour does not include it as an optional) and gave them my date I wanted to go, they wrote back telling me I had a reservation and I paid on the night. It seemed so easy so im just checking with others to see if they had to do the same?

Hey everyone,
I was hoping someone could help me! I’m going on the Winter Wanderer departing December 21st and I just got my documents yesterday.
Browsing through the hotel lists, in lucerne it says we are stayng at a hotel at the bottom of the mountain, not the one at the top! The name of the hotel on the list is: Mothotel Pilatusblic
Does anyone know anything about this? I’m just curious so I don’t have to pack an overnight bag lol!

Some other helpful hints:
When on plane it is important to get up and walk around periodically to avoid developing deep vein thrombosis (or however it’s spelled)
Also, drink plenty of fluids which can lessen effects of jet lag.
Bring disposable camera (s). You never know when your camera could stop working and there’s nothing worse than not being able to take photos.
Put some sort of marking such as a ribbon on your suitcase to make it stand out. It’s always difficult to pick out your luggage off the baggage carousel so may as well make it somewhat easier.
Bring nice clothing for going out at night. the kind you’d wear to going to a club or nice restaurant.
Hope that helps. I’ve got even more and some useful websites too.

I am thinking about doing the “Best of Europe” trip next year and am trying to budget for it. Has anyone gone to Paris w/ Contiki and gone to the Moulin Rouge? It sounds cool but for almost $200 USD I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth the money…..
Moulin Rouge: Worth it? Or tourist trap?
Thanks!

I know they say tours start at 7 AM (e.g. mine is the Wild Western). I’m not staying at the hotel the night before because I have family down near LA, so I have to get to the Best Western Stovalls Inn to catch the tour? And when they say start date is 7 AM this means when the bus leaves, so I probably should aim to be at the hotel lobby by about 6:30 AM? Just curious, thanks!

Hey everyone i’ve just got a general question about time. specifically the travel time between London and Versailles.
ok so heres how it is, ive got a spare day in London and i was wondering how long it would take to get to Versailles for a day trip. I’d so love to go there but it really depends on how long it would take.
I was thinking of taking the underground train to where ever it goes then catching another train to Versailles.
Is there and easier way?
any feed back will be appreciated ![]()
