So i’m about to book my flight for europe for 3 weeks. My friend and I have decided to do the whole trip on our own and figure everything out ourselves along the way, rather than a tour. For people who have done it on your own, does this tend to be cheaper as opposed to a tour? since you are staying at hostels and such? I’m going for 3 weeks and i’m not sure how much money to bring for my trip (assuming i don’t do alot of shopping, and only buying souveneirs)
Also, we are planning to purchase a rail pass that can be used for all the countries. How long does it usally take on a rail to get from one country to another? we are unsure of whether to upgrade to the first class one (for better sleeping) because we are unsure of how often we’d actually be sleeping on the rail.
This is my first time travelling to europe so any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks so much!

Do you have to pay to apply for an ESTA?
I’ve been onto 2 websites which both charged completely different prices. I thought that it was free to visit the USA from the UK?
Can anyone help?

Hey yall.
I just booked a European Magic tour in April and I booked it for the following reasons- I wanted to go to Europe, I dont speak any other languages than English, I didnt want to plan out my whole itinerary myself, and I wanted to be safe.
But Im NOT a huge partier- this is a college graduation present to myself and I want to take in the culture and all the trip has to offer. I love people, dont get me wrong, but I dont want the majority of my trip to be ruined by being tired and hungover/throwing up and headaches and nausiousness on a bus. EW.
I really am a cool person. I cant wait to get into AMSTERDAM and party in the COFFEE SHOPS but I dread people coming into my hotel room when Im trying to sleep and keeping me up all night. Is it really like that—- is there a lot of partying in the hotel rooms- were the people you roomed with generally respectful of you???
PM me or email me at ala362@gmail.com Id love to hear from anyone who can give me advice whether it be that im right or wrong lol.
Cheers!!

I’m doing the 9 day England and Scotland tour in August but am also staying in London before and afterwards, but also want to go to Paris after the tour. The only thing is, I’m having trouble finding reliable info as to how much time I’d need to get from London (the Royal National) to a hotel (not sure which one) in Paris, then to see a few sights.
I’ll only have two or three days max, but I’m not sure how long it would take to travel from London (St Pancras International station where the Eurostar leaves, I think) to the station in Paris. If I leave London after midday on Saturday, and I get to Paris in the evening that day, then have two days after that in Paris (to see the Eiffel Tower and Paris sights one day, and Versailles the other), would I be able to get back to London either Monday night or Tuesday morning?
Also, my tour finishes in Glasgow at 8am, and I catch the train back to London which arrives at 1pm – does anyone know which station you arrive at?

Hi. I was wondering how you pay for optionals on the US tours. In Europe we had to pay cash but in New Zealand we used credit cards.

Haldo, all,
I’m planning on taking the European Highlights trip this Summer, and I had a few questions before I book that I was hoping you could all help me answer.
1) I understand that we have to cook at certain locations – this isn’t a problem for me, but would it be possible for me to request duty in one city rather than another, so that I have more time in the places that I’m particularly interested in seeing?
2) How much cash should I plan to spend while in europe, above the base cost of flight and the trip itself?
3) I was planning on taking a few extra days in London. Would it be easier for me to do this before the trip starts or at the end? Anybody have experience with doing this?
4) Any other advice for a first-time traveller? Anything I should know about before I go?
5) On the free day in Paris, is it possible to see both Versailles and the Louvre (at least the Mona Lisa and a few other highlights)? I know that the Louvre closes at 6, and I know that I can visit the Eiffel Tower and the Arc d’ Triumph after hours.
Any help you could all give me would be appreciated!

Looking at travelling on the Contiki Greek Island Hopping tour May/June 2009 and was wondering if anyone can answer a couple of questions?…
Does Contiki use the Express or High-Speed ferries or the slower, normal ferries between islands on this tour?
If they use the slow ferries, can you take a fast one, get there quicker and get any sort of re-imbursement for getting there yourself?
*How long is the transit between islands?
Maybe silly but important to me!
Many thanks!

but trouble deciding:
“Croatia cruise” or “Berlin to Budapest”?
Note: I’m a “Contiki virgin” and it would be my first time in Europe

Hey! Since my friend and I will be in London early and would like to try out the pubs, I was curious as to how we will be treated walking in there and looking like newbies? Whats the atmosphere like? will people enjoy a conversation?

Hi All,
Never been overseas, so please excuse the stupid questions!! hahaha
I will be touring Europe in August 07, what is best to use on a trip.
Cash or credit card…. or even travellers cheques??
If cash, is the only place to change currency at the airport…. or are there places all over cities to change currency?
Thanks!

I am really getting cold feet on the whole Contiki thing! I’m not sure if it is for me!
I live my life “outside” the box; I don’t conform well to structure. And I’m really worried that i was a little premature in booking a trip with Contiki.. Everyone on this forum always says to the people who haven’t enjoyed Contiki whether they did research before they left majority didn’t, but I have and I’m not sure if it’s what I want out of my European experience…
Do you think that there are just some people who Contiki isn’t for?

Just wondering if anyone is going to La Tomatina after their contiki tour is over. I can’t wait to go but hoping to find people to meet up with.
