Hi, i am off to Europe shortly and i have been told to get my bank to put a pin on my Australian credit card as apparently lots of places in europe, do not accept credit cards where you have to sign for the purchase. Is this correct? Are you able to sign for things in Europe or can you only use a pin? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi all,

I’m spending 6-7 months travelling from mid next year. We are doing 3 tours in Europe in that timeframe and then going to America for a couple of months.

The tours/flights etc are already booked. I wanna know if $30,000 AUD is enough money to survive for that period. Thanks

Hi everyone,

I was interested in doing the ski tour of New Zealand this year (have never done a contiki before) and was wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me?

1. How far in advance do you need to book the tours?
2. Do you book and pay for the optional extras on the tour or beforehand?
3. Did anyone go on the Cleo/Ralph ski tour last year and what was it like?
4. I’ve got my own gear, should I take it with me or would it be safer/easier to hire over there?
5. If I stay a night before or after any recommendation on where to stay? ( the tour starts/ends in Christchurch)
6. Are there any other expenses that I’ll need to pay for that aren’t on the itinerary?

Ummm thats all I can think of right now, but might post again with more questions!

Thanks for any help, Stef Smiler

Hello, I am doing the London 5 day over New Years. Does anyone know of any reasonable pubs/bars or clubs for New years? Places that are layed back but fun and filled with young people.

Not too dressy or pretentious would be best. Been living in S.Florida for 2 years and just want to have a blast on New years! No show needed.

Thanks, Bridget:-)

I’ve noticed that some of the optionals in the brochure are not available in the eKit’s optionals. For example, the hot air balloon ride in Egypt[Luxor¿].

Is there any possible chance that Contiki/TM could organize this optional? possibly others?

Hey everyone, I’ve travelled with Contiki and would like to offer some advice:

If you plan on taking a credit card to Europe, you may want to call your credit card company to let them know you’ll be travelling so they don’t think the card has been stolen and cut you off.

Another thing I recommend is carrying your cash in a money belt, I find it safer.

Plan on spending $100-$150 USD per day. You’ll have to buy lunches daily, souveneirs, some dinners and going out at night. You should try exchanging money before you leave. You’ll have to chance to do so on the tour, but easier to get that part out of the way and have one less thing to worry about.

When you pack, throw some clothing into your carry-on to lighten the weight of the suitcase and in case your luggage gets lost. Leave room for souveneirs & carry with you an extra copy of your pasport and hotel address list.

In terms of weight of luggage, it’s the airlines that are more strict than Contiki. Each airline has their own weight threshold & will only be too glad to charge you extra for going over. You can find out the limit/rules by going on the airline’s website.

Feel free to ask me anything else.

Hello,

I’m not sure if this topic has been covered on this site – but I’m curious (especially since I keep hearing stories). Can anyone please shed some light or answer the following:

1) Do you have to pay to use the restrooms (ie/at pubs, restaurants, public ones…)?

2) Should one travel with their own toilet paper? I’ve been told that some places don’t give you enough

3) Are they fairly clean? I’m assuming they are since they have attendants but a friend of mine said she was a decent restaurant in Rome and when she went to use the restroom it was basically a hole in the ground…

4) Do the ladies’ facilities have containers to dispose their feminine products?

Any information will be greatly appreciated…

Thanks!

I’m doing the Egypt tour in March, and bringing my backpack. I usually roll up my t-shirts and jeans to avoid wrinkles, but never have any luck with dress shirts. Anyone have suggestions on how to keep them wrinkle free in their backpack? Thanks!

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has done one of the Hawaiian Stopovers. Are they worth the money, or would you be better off doing it yourself? I have had a look at the description of the tours and it looks to me as though the only things that are really included are the accomodation and the fact that you have someone to point you in the direction of where you may want to go. Are there any tours or activities involved at all? Any advice on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jess

Hi, I’m new to this, I’ve never ever considered doing an organized trip, and solo?! it’s always been with my close friends.. but I need a change definitely and could be a lot of fun and meeting new and great people. I was wondering, I’m not sure yet if I will travel, but if I do, is it too late to register for a trip around aug 8 or 15, between those dates? maybe the Spain trip or Europe. There are so many Europe trips…I don’t know, something new and spontaneous! And which trip is the most fun, for those who are going, and the previous travelers?? I def want to visit but I want to have fun and go out and party a little also!
Thanxs

the Australia/NZ book for 09/10? I got mine yesterday. I’m a bit confused, I thought they weren’t being released until October, and that the Europe one would be released at the same time??? Either way I’m happy it came, time to start planning more travels!

Does anyone know if we are able to check in early at the travel lodge in Sydney? Or at least be able to keep my luggage there? I will be arriving early (about 730am or so on Sat Sept 6th) from the U.S. The website says that check in is at 2pm. Thanks!
