Hello.
My friends and I (3-4 of us) are planning on traveling to Europe after graduation. We have been looking into this ourselves but thought maybe a contiki tour would be a good idea. We are interested in London, Amsterdam, Greece, Italy, Spain, and France. We do not need to travel to all and we could travel elsewhere if the tours call for it.
However my question is whether or not these tours provide enough downtime. We would like to not just sit on a bus the entire tour but also be allowed to explore a little bit of London or Amsterdam or whatever city for ourselves. It would be a shame if we came to Europe (some of us for the first time) and did not get to experience what we wanted and only did what the tour iterated for us.
I understand this is a TOUR and not a travel agency but we are hoping for some balance between structure and choice.
Any comments appreciated!

Hi Everyone! I?m a Contiki frequent flyer. This time I?m planning with my Contiki partner to embark on a holiday to Australia. The month that we are planning to go is January ?07. Obviously since there are so many tours, we have no idea on what to pick. We do know that we want to visit the coast/reefs but we also want to check out the historic part of the country. What do you recommend?!?!? PLEASE HELP! You can email me @ maite_rodrgz@yahoo.com.

Hey everybody… so the thing is I like to party, go out at night, staying up late… but I don’t drink.. like alcoholic drinks. So I’m just wondering, do people really go to get wasted, do they go drinking everynight, and if you dont feel like it, or if you’re just tired, or feel like just enjoying the “tourism” part of the trip, do you get stucked in the hotel room at night, or are there other thing that you can do? Thanks in advance!

Was just wondering what the name of the campsite/hostel is that you stay in when visiting Venice on a concept tour?
I’m planning on heading back there a month after my tour and just want to check out if it’s reasonably priced.
If they have a website that would be greatly appreciated too.

Hi, my brother is currently on a Europe Contiki and I need to contact him urgently. He has been with a group for most of his tour, and most of it has been camping. I know that right now he should be in Turkey and is going to Croatia next. I wondering if there was a way I could contact his tour operator or tour guide, because I am unable to reach him on his cell. I’m assuming all the contiki guides have cellphones on them for emergencies?
If mods and/or admins know of any numbers I could call, would you please give me them?
I am currently in Australia, as it is past 6pm here, contiki call centres are closed. I’m currently trying to find the turkish number for contiki as I type this. My brother would have organised his tour in N.Z.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. Sorry If this is thr wrong spot for this question, But i couldn’t find a ‘general section’
Im going over to europe in a few months to take a contiki tour.
Now My brother went over last year and organised everything through his travel agent.
Which hes been telling me to ‘go to a travel agent and let them do all the stuff’
Problem is, what else are they going to do for me?
I’ve booked my tour. Picked and booked my flights, Im organising my travel insurence.
I know where I plan to stay before and after my trip.
My question is, Is it really worth my time and money to goto a travel agent? considering I’ve done all there work for them?
Is there anything else that they will do/organise what I havnt?
Thanks.

looking for general location of hotels that were used in paris. If anyone can give me names of the hotels they stayed in while on their tour that would be so helpful as I am trying to plan out which airport would be best to fly out of at the end of our tour. We want to fly to Ireland and it looks like the cheapest flights take off from the Beauvais Airport.
Thanks for any info

Hi All,
I’m doing LA to the Bay in July 2009 and I’m staying in San Fran for another week or so at the end of the tour. I’ve booked the HI San Fran City Centre but have heard it’s in a dodgy area – would I be better staying at the HI San Fran Downtown? I’m having trouble deciding as both seem to have their pros and cons and as a single female traveller, I want to be sure that I’m in the best place!
Thanks,
Frances

Hi everyone, im just wonding if you get a lot of opportunities to wash and dry your clothes while on tour? Id like to pack as lightly as possible!!!!10th May 2012
I’m doing the Grand Explorer in NZ and I have no clue how to go about this. I know it’s best to do travellers cheques when ever you travel, but is there even time to cash them throughout the tours? I heard it can be better to exchange your money abroad too? What is suggested?

i just booked a euro discovery tour in jan 08 about a week or two ago and i just looked on the website and the price has gone down about 100 dollars. Just wondering if anyone knows why they did this and whether or not i pay the balance for this price or the other one? ![]()

Hello all,
I’ve booked to do the 25 day Aussie Explorer. I know on my last trip (European Discovery) it was a debate of which to pack your stuff in, a suitcase or a backpack. I chose suitcase.
This time for Australia, I was still considering suitcase, but the trip sounds a little more rugged.
For those who have done any aussie tour before, what was the general consensus of other travellers. What would you recommend?
Daryl.

Hi!
I’m going to go on a Contiki tour at the end of Dec 2006 – Jan 2007, but I’m having problems deciding!
I’m going to be by myself, so ideally I would like to go on a tour where there a few single people or groups of travellers, I’m not too keen on spending my holiday with just couples! – I have friends who went on Encounter last year, and they said there were quite a few couples…. :P
I’m looking at either European Discovery or European Encounter. I was leaning towards Discovery, because it is cheaper, but I think it might be too short.
I’m quite keen on Encounter, it’s a good length, but I’m concerned that due to it being more pricey (and Timeout instead of Concept), it’s more likely to be a tour that more couples take, with maybe less young people (I’m 24 btw).
Any thoughts??

I’m going on the grand adventurer and only have expandable suitcases. They are soft shell not hard and everyone else I know also only has expandable cases. They do not expand much – will this be a problem? I’m not planning to expand them during the trip as I prefer to try to pack light. It is just an extra zip around the outside of the suitcase – how strict are they on the non-expandable part?

Hi-
Am going on my first 13 day tour in Oct…was wondering if I was crazy to book another 13 day tour right after the first…or if you think it would be better to wait and go in a few months on the next one…
