I know there are about a million questions out there about the tents for the camping tours – but I thought I needed to add one more!
I have been looking at the information on the Contikipedia regarding camping tours and was looking at a couple of pictures of the tents used. Is it just for the picture – or is there really no base to the tent? It is just walls and the bottom of the tent is open to the ground.
Is this really how the tents are? Or is there a tarp or something that gets laid down? It just seems like it is a potentially dirty situation. What if it has been wet and we need to put up tents on wet and/or muddy ground? Our suitcases and whatever else touch the ground will get decidedly gross!!
Not to mention all the bugs! lol I am not all that much of a girly girl – but I do not like spiders and don’t fancy the idea of giving the easy access up to my sleeping bag if they are there!!!
Anyone who has been on a camping tour care to enlighten me?

So amongst all the topics of discussion in the Contiki forums..i’m curious to know…what was your favourite European country??
10th May 2012
I know that this has been touched on in a few different posts, but I am after an answer from a moderator or someone who knows for sure…
I don’t have a suitcase of the dictated size (the only one I have is massive). I had planned on taking a bag that I own. It is a little bigger than the prescribed size, but because it is made of cloth instead of the hard stuff suitcases are made of, it’s squishable. Is this an acceptable alternative to a suitcase? The trip is pretty expensive and I really don’t want to have to buy a new suitcase for some stupid amount of money.
If you can help me out, please let me know ASAP.
Cheers,
-Ben.

Im planning to do the Grand Southern Trip in around April Next year, and want to add on the LA Explorer for a few days in LA at the end of the trip.
Problem is, on the contiki website, they only have one date available per month (which seems strange) none of which are near the end of the Grand Southern Trip. How can I organise it to start the day I arrive in LA??
Also, is it possible to do 2 or 3 LA explorers back to back to spend more time in LA?
I tried booking a room on the Best Western website, but for some reason no matter what date I select, they only offer double Queen rooms (for 4 people), and not just a double room (for 2) Surely they cant have sold out of Double rooms already…?
Any help?

I’m going on the Northern Highlights tour on May 4th. What should I expect for weather? Any suggestions on what to pack? (In terms of jackets, shoes, etc.)

Hi there I was wondering whether contiki people or other fellow travellers can help……
I read in one of the discussions that there were bed bugs in Abel Tasman Hotel and I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced bites in any other hotels in new zealand or australia if you have been there too? I had a fantastic holiday in canada a few years ago but had a nightmare few months when home as a bed bug must have got into my luggage and then infested my room at home which was one of worst experiences of my life as I felt I was being eaten alive every night-I do not want to take any home with me again for this trip!! (I am going on NZ contiki tour soon!) thanks

Hi all
I’m 23 and just finished uni last year. I’m now working full time but want to do some travelling next year.
As I’ve got to take holidays from work I’m considering doing the 12 day European Highlights/Discovery tour on my own at the end of February. I’m a bit nervous about travelling alone and was wondering if anyone has any helpful advice?
Also for anyone who has been on this tour how did you find it?
Cheers ![]()

Hello all,
Has anyone spent New Years Eve in New York?
Does anyone has any recommendations on what to do? I think we will probably see the ball drop at mid night and then head to a bar or club after… Does anyone know a good bar or club that we will be able to get into after midnight on New Years Eve?
We are staying on 5th Avenue so somewhere close by would be great..
Any tips would be appreciated
Thanks
Nicci

When would you say is the best time to travel to Greece & Croatia, taking in account weather & price.
Thanks!

Hi, I am doing the Wild Western in Jan 08. I am interested to know what you do in San Diego and are there any other options other than the Zoo and Sea World? I have been on safari in Africa so zoos don’t have the same appeal now and have been to Sea World many times as a child in Orlando so was looking for an alternative. Thanks.

Hey all – I’m leaving in 48 hours for the May 31st European Highlights trip – any last minute advice?

I plan on travelling with my boyfriend in May 2008, but we’re having difficulty deciding which tour to take.
I like the fact that you get to see a lot more places on the European Discovery, but it seems very rushed. I wonder if it’s too rushed to enjoy everything?
I for sure want to see Italy and Paris, so London/Paris/Rome seemed like the best option with lots of free time to enjoy everything at a slower pace. But European Discovery seems more worth the money for everything you get to see as well (it also travels to Venice which the LPR tour doesn’t)
My other thoughts were taking the Italien Espresso tour and adding an extra 2 days to travel to Paris on our own after the tour.
I’d appreciate any thoughts on the pace of the tours or any comments on the tours themselves. It is our first trip to Europe and we want to be able to enjoy every step of it ![]()

Hey Guys,
Really want to do the “Simply Italy” tour. Can anybody recommend it? Is it a good italian contiki experience?

The part of the Grand canyon that was flooded and devistated by recent heavy rains is NOT at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The flooding happened where the falls are at Havasupai where the village and sky walk are which IS NOT in the Grand Canyon National park. If you are visiting the South Rim of the Grand Canyon you will be fine. If you are taking a helicopter flight from Las Vegas to the falls you will NOT be able to do that until next year.
Please referr to National Park Services to get the story straight. If anyone has questions please let me know.

A co-worker, who’s family is Swiss, told me to definitely go with the CHF vs the EURO for Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
I was just checking the exchange rate on $1 CDN against the GBP (0.47) and EURO (0.70). I looked up the Swiss Franc and $1 CDN gets $1.10 CHF.
Are the prices in Switzerland and Liechtenstein in EURO or CHF? Is the CHF really a better deal in those countries?
