I was wondering from anyone that has been on a previous contiki tour if its normal to pick up some bottles of alcohol with your tour mates and drink in the rooms before going out.
I keep seeing alot of posts about how much money to budget for each day. The common consensus is 100 euros per day. After the break dowm of lunch, dinner, museums, souvenirs, and transportation it leaves about 20 euros for drinks per day. That seems extremely low. How much are drinks in Europe? Im from the states and one drink alone here costs $20.

Hi All,
Could somebody please help with the following?
(keep in mind I am from a warm part of Aus with 30degree heat every day atm).
- I am doing the Scenic Southern, Nov 6-13. Is it going to be cold? People keep saying to pack ‘layers’ in the various threads. What exactly does this mean? Do I need thermals?
- Will it be too cold to go swimming in Milford Sound?
- Can I get away wearing jeans everyday or should I pack something lighter/warmer/more comfortable?
- if its going to be cold, can i get by with a jumper and cardy, or should i bring my big snow jacket? (it’s really bulky and warm)
- is there an opportunity to wash clothes on tour? such as singlets and shirts?
sorry for the q’s, but i’m VERY clueless!!
any other advice on ‘must have’ items/clothes would be awesome!
Thanks!
dg.

I’ve set up an Ekit account and purchased minutes with my credit card already, but now I’m confused about how I use it. Do I need to use it from a cell phone? Or can it be used from a pay phone? I know that I’ll be charged for hotel phone use if I use it in the hotel, but is from a pay phone okay? Must it be from a cell phone? Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Hi guys
Just wondering how you are getting from the airport to Hotel Regent? Taxi is about 40 euros each way but I have heard you can get a train from the airport to Termini Station and then get a bus 910 to near the hotel.
I was thinking that I would get the train to Termini and then get a taxi – does anyone know how long would it take to drive from Termini Station to the hotel in a taxi?

Hi Guys,
I’m planning a 21 day trip as follows:
7 Days – Melbourne
? Days – Sydney
? Days – Goldcoast
? Days – Newzealand
The number of days that I’ll be staying in Sydney, Goldcoast and Newzealand is still not confirmed.
Does anyone have a good itinerary that I could use ?
I’ve been trying to find information all over the internet but can’t find much related to what I’m looking for.
As this is my first time planning a overseas trip, would appreciate if some people over here can give some advice.
Thanks alot in advance
Nycky

I was looking into going on the european encounter trip this summer but i will be traveling alone and was wondering if anyone else is going to be in the same situation. I heard these tours were more about partying than site-seeing and am wondering if i will be the only sober person on the trip!

Hola,
30 days to go now!!! w0000!
Anyhoo, I’m wondering whether to get an International Student Identification Card (ISIC). Basically it means that if places have student discounts if you have an ISI card then you are eligible for a discount.
Will I need one?

Hi there
I will be taking my first Contiki tour in June this year. It will also be my first time in the USA. I plan to spend abot 5 weeks in the USA and am really looking forward to it.
I am just unsure whether to use cash, traveller’s cheques or a credit card. At first I planned to simply buy dollars for my trip and use mainly cash… but I have been advices now to use a credit card.
My fear, however, it that the charges on the credit card will be high and even more nerve-wrecking… that my credit card may not be accepted and the I will be stuck with no money ![]()
I was thinking of using traveller’s cheques but I am not sure whether they will be accepted and how and where and how easily I can cash them in.
Please help

HOw far in advance should one book a tour of Egypt? I don’t want to go until Nov or December of 08. The other possible “problem” is that I will be 36 by that time. Will I still be able to go. We had a guy on my last tour who was 36. How strict is Contiki reguarding this? I think they should give some leeway to people who ahve doen their tours already. Anyone have any ideas on this??

Hi Guys, I am going on the Grand Southern on May 5 (only 30 sleeps till i leave! WOO!!) and we have a couple of extra days in LA and NY either side. I am staying at Best Western Hollywood (on Franklin Ave) and was wondering if two things…
1) From the Airport, is it cheaper to take a taxi (there are two of us) or to get a bus/shuttle thing…?
and 2) We will have to leave pretty early on the morning of the tour to get to Anaheim, again same question… is there a bus route that will run that early or is it best to brave the cost of a taxi.
And a similar question for NYC… We are staying in Midtown in NYC, is there a bus that goes to JFK Airport or would it be better to catch a taxi there?
THANKS! ![]()

Hi All…
Has anybody been to Mykonos &/or Santorini recently and stayed in any really good hotels for a reasonable $$$?
We dont want to be too far from the ‘party scene’, beaches or the local Euro boys! LoL!
It would be a great help to find out info before we depart from past experiences of Greece travellers….
Please email me with details, sites or hotel names etc….
Many thanx
