Hey everyone,
Planning on taking one of the European tours this summer 2010 and was interested in seeing if anyone else out there is interested?
Also looking for some advice on the Horizons vs. Magic tour because those are the two that really appealed to me. Looking forward to hearing back from some people.

Ok, I am heading on my first trip to Great Britain in May.
There is so much information on here I feel like my head is spinning and am gathering lots of information, but it is hard to focus.
I have a few quesitons:
1. On this trip in particular, I am going to take a larger rolling suitcase for the majority of my items.
But I am confused becuase I am reading that on tours, you should take a backpack or something that is mobile for when going to the different countries—Are we going to hotels first and can drop off our stuff or do we have to take our smaller bags on our day tours when we get off the bus? In that case, I need to buy a backpack.
Also, can i take a purse and a day bag?
2. Do people usually ship their souveniers home instead of packing them?? Do you pay taxes on your items in GB??
3. What happens when going through customs?
4. HAs anyone been to GB in May? What is the weather like?, What is the most important lesson you learned? And what is the best piece of advice you can offer?
THANKS!!!!

Hi,
I’m planning on doing the European Discovery Tour in winter (Jan 07 hopefully) and just wanted to know if other people who have done it felt like they had enough time in each place to have a good look around or perhaps there’s another tour that would be a bit better (i want a tour for between 12 – 16 days)
Thanks ![]()

So pretty much my parents are very anti my going on this trip (more so my dad than anyone else). Ive been saving up to go on this trip ever since i decided to go. Im just over half way there and with a birthday coming up I am hoping to be close to my target by at least september (planning on going on the November Grand Southern trip). I’ve been talking heaps about it with my parents and both think its a waste of money. I have been to America twice once when i was little the other 2 years ago, but that was with family and we only went to California, Las Vegas and New York, and I really want to see alot more of it.
I think its something that would be an amazing experience, but my dad hates the idea and seems set on his ways. Apparently wasting my mony on going to a country i have already been to is silly, and that I should better spend my money on something like buying an apartment, or using it for my car. I understand that but this is something ive been wanting to do for soooo long, and ill be 19 on the trip so it seems like the perfect time to go.
I dont know. I want other peoples opinions. How can I change my dads idea of it being a waste of money.
Also i was wondering on the best way to save my money? So far ive bene pretty good, but whenever i enter a shopping centre the shopaholic comes out in me and i go crazy and spent hundreds of dollars. I’ve now avoided the shops unless my mum is there to stop me impulse buying. I’ve also cut down on my social outtings, and when i do go out i dont drink (because last time i did it cost me a fortune).
All advice and comments would be great
Thankyou!!!

Hey guys! Just wondering if anyone who has been on the Grand Canadian tour knows if you get to visit Niagra Falls? If not, do you think there would be enough time to go out there for the day from Toronto – has anyone done it? Thx Ap ![]()

Hey, sorry to waste your time. Just curious traveling for 3 months soon. Ok… have booked some things, tours, accom etc, but not sure how much spending money i’ll need. Oh and keep in mind i have the aussie dollar (not so good). Here’s my (kind of) plan;
uk one month which includes 15days contiki 15 days of wherever whatever (so remember tour/accom/food paid upfront) then spain nothing paid 4 for 2 weeks, egypt (tour/accom paid for) greek islands 2 weeks (only accom paid 4) then turkey and germany just whatever wherever not paid for, for 2-3 weeks.
So with flights, tours some accomadation and food paid for already… What do u all recon would be a good amount of $$$Australian$$$ to have as spending money? PS: I love a drink but not a big drinker :P What’s a go crazy amount and what’s a enjoy but not spend heaps amount…
Thanks again appreciate ur suggestions and sorry 4 wasting ur time….
Cheers,

Hi guys,
I’m looking at rocking Europe sometime around mid year. I’d love to do a Contiki tour… basically because of the age group and the fact that I’m too lazy to plan the trip myself. However, I’ve heard all the tours are really intense and cram a lot of stuff in a short period of time. That is great for sightseeing, but I don’t get much/anything out of sightseeing at all. I will be going purely to party. I think early mornings, getting onto a bus, will really kill the holiday for me.
I’m looking to go for around 21 days and would like to spend MORE time in LESS locations. Can anyone make any tour recommendations?

A couple of friends and I want to take a tour in either Australia or New Zealand at the end of May til the middle of June. Anyone have advice about which tours would give us both recreational activities (hiking, kayaking, snorkeling) and some nightlife? I have no idea which place would have the best weather at that time of year…as I know that is getting into their colder months! I know this is broad but any advice is very appreciated!! Thanks!

I am planning on doing the Aussie Explorer tour. Which month would be the best weather to go in – Feb, March or April? Would it be too cold at the beaches during the April-May tour? Any advice would be appreciated!

I’m going to be on the New York Explorer in a few weeks time.
I arrive the weekend before it starts so I will have plenty of time to explore New York by myself before hand. I am intending on buying a New York Pass which gives free admission to many attactions over 7 days.
Is this worthwhile?
Should I hold back on any of the main attractions as I will probably do them with the rest of the group on the Contiki?
Would you recommend reserving a ticket to go up the Crown of the Statue of Liberty? I’ve heard that Contiki don’t spend much time there so I could do this in my own time.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, it seems a lot of people ask about the weather conditions in australia. I’m an australian so hopefully this helps.
Dec,Jan,Feb = Summer
Mar,Apr,May = Autumn
Jun,Jul,Aug = Winter
Sep,Oct,Nov = Spring
Now for the areas that contiki travel to along the east coast you will find that between Sydney and Rockhampton the weather can be warm with a nice cool breeze and always have a jacket with you in the evening as it will get cool. In the winter months it will be cold, windy and raining.
Between Rockhampton and Cairns the conditions change rapidly and you will feel the difference it’s not so much the heat but the humidity that kills you and makes you feel flat.
Also between October and March it is more tropical in Queensland so please be aware that cyclones are more likely to form in this time. It is also stinger season during this time and you may find beaches are closed because of them.
Between April and September you will find the weather is the best never much rain about it’s cool but comfortable and the best time to travel up to northern australia.
Hope this all helps with peoples confusions.

Hey All,
I am participating in the Bridge to Reef tour in Sept and I am curious about what to bring. I’ve looked over the packing list and its fairly basic, but I wanted to know if anyone else had suggestions of what to bring more of or less of.
I ask because I took the Egyptian tour and it said to bring dress clothes, heels etc, but we didn’t go out and they just took up space in my luggage … I want to avoid that for Australia.
Thanks!

I was wondering if a few Australians could provide me with some advice. I am in the process of booking my flights within Australia, as I leave in two weeks. I was just wondering between Virgin Blue and Jetstar, which is the better airline? Should I lean more towards one than the other? There are a few times when they offer the EXACT same price and similar times so I am not sure which one to use. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Hey ya’ll !I know this sounds like a simple question, but hear me out. I’m going on a 21-day camping tour next week. I’m not sure if it’s neccessary to take a cellphone with or not.
I’m not really keen on taking it, coz I don’t wanna be bothered with it while on holiday and be worrying about where it is .But my friends and family are trying to convince me to take it in case of emergency or if they need to contact me…
Right, now getting to the point :-) Can anyone advise me if it’s neccessary to take it with or not plz. If yes, why?
Thanks
Luvena
