Ski Lessons & Hire

Contiki’s got some great deals on lessons (private or group) & equipment hire, so all you need to bring is yourself – we can organize the rest!

Ski School

Contiki’s exclusive ski school operates from within our Gasthof. Registered under Austrian Ski School Association, ‘Ski Alpine Skischule’ offers expert instructors – all fully qualified. The ski school will usually provide one English-speaking instructor for a group of no more than 12 people. With perseverance, all beginners will make it up to the top of Hohe Salve by the end of their holiday (beginners are those who have never skied before - everyone else will be intermediate or advanced).

Equipment Hire

You don't need to buy expensive new gear before you go - our friends at Kurz Ski Rental in Hopfgarten have loads of gear available for hire, in all different shapes and sizes. They'll kit you out with clean, modern clothing & up-to-date equipment from well-known brands - all maintained in their shop at the base of the Hohe Salve gondola station. You can choose from two equipment levels (for skis, poles, boots & snowboards) - Standard, or Superior.

Standard equipment is perfect for beginners and people learning to ski or snowboard. For those wanting the latest model ski or snowboard equipment, an upgrade (for a fee) is available to the Superior equipment package. This also gives access to Kurz' storage depot and boot dryer, which dries boots overnight so they're warm and ready to go the next day.

Please note: You'll need to bring goggles and a pair of ski gloves with you, as these can't be hired in the village. It's best to get them before you go instead of waiting until you get to Hopfgarten as supplies may be limited during peak season. We also advise bringing a warm hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Ski & Snowboard Lessons

All skiers & boarders who take lessons will receive a certificate at the end of the course, which documents their achievement standard.

• Ski Lessons (5 days for 4hrs/day): These operate from Sunday to Thursday with 2 hours tuition in the morning & 2 hours tuition in the afternoon.
• Ski Lessons (3 days for 4hrs/day): These operate from Sunday to Tuesday with 2 hours tuition in the morning & 2 hours in the afternoon.
• Snowboard Lessons (5 days for 2hrs/day): These operate from Sunday to Thursday with tuition in the morning.
• Snowboard Lessons (4 days for 2hrs/day): These operate from Sunday to Tuesday with tuition in the morning.
• Combined Ski & Snowboard Lessons: 3 days ski for 4hrs/day first & then 3 days snowboard for 2hrs/day. The ski lessons operate from Sunday to Tuesday & the snowboard lessons from Wednesday to Friday.

Please note: It is possible to extend your lessons once in Hopfgarten, but only as an addition to pre-booked lesson packages. These are called 'extensions' & prices are available from the Contiki Gasthof staff.

Please note: All prices given are approximate (based on the 2012/13 season). As debit & credit card facilities are not available at Gasthof Schöneck, all payments need to be made in cash, in the local currency (Euros). There are a number of ATMs throughout Hopfgarten village where you will be able to withdraw cash - please contact your bank for more information on any fees or charges you may attract when withdrawing from a foreign ATM.
