18 Apr 2012 - 11 May 2012 \ i knew the 23 hour flight was going to be tough, i love a good film but there are only so many you can watch in a row. id already read my australia guidebook cover to cover the weeks leading up to my trip... rookie mistake. it would of provided some valuable extra hours entertainment. i met up with my contiki tour group in the 34 degree humid heat of darwin, to my joy the group was mainly female. i've got nothing against lads but i do enjoy a lady friend or two to talk to. i took my chance to claim the imax seats on every possible occasion, there was supposed to be a seat rotation system in place but nobody else seemed overly bothered.. which suited me fine. uluru and kakadu where the highlights in the northern territory, and there sure are some local characters you meet in the outback, my personal favorite being a at first quite and timid elderly man in tennent creek who after a few pints suddenly burst into life. pole dancing and chatting up all the young girls. the sly old fox. The east coast was exactly what you would expect it to be, beaches and reefs a-plenty. The whitsundays sailing trip could of easily proven to be a party to far for me, ive always been suseptable to peer pressure and after the girls started chanting my name i was powerless to resist the snorkle shot. a bottle of wine downed through a snorkle in at most 10 seconds flat, i just about managed to power through the waves of nausea to witness a dolphin join the festivities. jumping around our boat for hours. We arrvied in syndey at around 6 o'clock. slightly later than expected due to one of our group walking into a lorry door and having to be taken to hospital, i lost all sympathy for him during the 1 hour extra they added onto my journey. cold hearted? maybe but no time to dwell, the end of the trip was a matter of hours away. Heart broken to leave everyone, Great people, Great tour, Great adventure. Bring on the next contiki tour!
