The Queen gets around, she does. The nonagenarian’s job (if you can call it that) is to travel the world, shaking plebeians’ hands in all manner of continents. Of course, that entails a heck tonne of air travel.
Sure, the Monarch may be flying around in a lush, mahogany-scented private jet, but she still gets jet lag. No amount of steamed facial towelettes and caviar-topped appetisers on-board can save one from jet lag, sweetie.
She has a secret weapon against it, but. And that’s poppin’ a coupla barley lollies between destinations.
As The Independent reports, she relies on homeopathic medicines and barley sugar — a whole 200g bag of which can be bought from Coles for just one buck — to get her adjusted to different time zones.
While these sugary boiled sweets aren’t an instant, magic cure against time zone savagery, the sugar can apparently help rejig your metabolism and get you hungry at the right times of day.
As general practitioner Nick Knight told The Telegraph, “Carrying out your daily habits like eating and sleeping in line with your new destination’s time zone — both en-route and on arrival — helps re-synchronise our body clock to our new environment.”
“What the Queen is doing by having barley sugar is essentially using her body’s sugar metabolic pathways to help adjust her body clock.”
“Essentially, the same should happen if you were to have your breakfast, lunch and dinner at times that match your destination before you get there, regardless of whether you’re hungry or not,” Knight added.
So there you have it, folks. Lay off the on-flight coffees and red wines and instead, pack yourself a bag o’ sweets. Deeeeeelicious.
