Your quick fire guide to North Park, San Diego

Hipster and proud of it, North Park is one of the most up and coming areas of San Diego, overflowing with craft breweries, cool eateries and enough boutiques to burn some serious cashola. Think of it as eclection at its finest.

How do I get there?

University Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard and the major thoroughfares served by public transport, or walk – North Park is just northeast of the gorgeous open spaces of Balboa Park.

What’s the vibe?

Trendy and on the up. Small businesses have started moving into the area over the past few years, and regeneration is everywhere.

Who hangs out here?

Students, young families, foodies and craft beer drinkers.

Where can I grab a coffee?

The French press and cold brews from Dark Horse Coffee Roasters pretty much hit the spot.

What does my cocktail look like?

A beer. Brewing is big business in North Park, so ‘hop’ on down to the North Park Beer Company, where home brewer Kelsey McNair has teamed up with interiors wiz Paul Basile to create a design led tasting room with a difference.

How do I spend an afternoon?

Boutique hopping between Aloha Beach Club (think Hawaii surf vibe selling art prints, homewares and clothing) and Pigment (gifts, home goods and plant heaven), followed by a wander round the gardens, forests and cactus garden at Balboa Park.

Should I plan an evening here?

Make like the student crowd and settle in for the night at Coin Op. Serving up craft beer alongside deep-friend Oreos and maple popcorn, you’ll be kept entertained for hours thanks to the old-school arcade machines.
