I had Team Dora Jokkel and Chris Lambert for Euro Adventurer 9/4-15/5. at 37 days long its a monster trip, but you also do see heaps of amazing places in this time. The tour itself could perhaps be modified to shorten the Paris stay and use its extra day to enjoy a bit more of Germany, in say adding another night in Munich, or even a single night stop in Berlin, or incorporating Czech Republic.
Dora went above an beyond in her research and planning to make the every stop we went to as seamless as possible, and Chris drove not only smoothly but confidently meaning you could truly relax as best as you could in transit.
Be aware that doing all the extra activities does add over $1000 to the $6,500 you've paid for the trip, and without a doubt id would strongly suggest a $4,000 spending budget at minimum. I believe Contiki could have perhaps been a little more transparent in such costs and outline a rough cost guide for staple items, to give first time travellers a better idea of what to expect with their spending. For example, i know i can get $1 7/11 coffee here but i learnt to expect no coffee of any decency for under 2-3 euro. ($3-5).
also, i may be an idiot, but i never recall reading about things like bringing a few fancier sets of clothes, and that you would have to buy some items for theme party nights. This meant it cost me heaps in last minute purchases.
The activities are great however, and id suggest to do almost every one, but would say with 100% confidence you could easily skip the mykonos by night tour. It was bland and boring, and in our group of 20 odd who did it, none left praising it. Just get a local map and walk around. you'll learn more.
Over 37 days you will almost guaranteed become very close with fellow travellers. If you are someone prone to lose your cool after minimal sleep or don’t cope with heated discussions at times, id strongly suggest against a trip of this length.
Id also suggest not doing the first of the season as well, as I found it meant you barely meet with any other contikis and as such some nights had earlier or more subdued endings.
For those concerned with doing this trip whilst not single, don’t be. 6 of our 26 were in relationships and it didn’t stop them from going out and being part of the groups shenanigans, but they were always respected.
All in all I loved the contiki tour I did. It had its ups and downs, but all in all I spent probably 11k for the 37 days and I saw over 20 countries and had stayed in the UK a week beforehand. I made some lifelong friends and knew that even when going out that because I was in a group I was always safe and getting a great deal.
I Will be doing a contiki again that’s for sure.
