I can honestly say this trip changed my life.

I always wondered if these reviews are from real people. But this one definitely is. Hi. I'm Jessica, and I live in Chicago. I was totally nervous about going solo on this tour...and, at first, it's intimidating. It's like going on 51 blind dates. But these people become your family. FAST. The Tour Managers (we had Amy, who is excellent) and your drivers (we had Ricky -- again, AMAZING) are in your age bracket and are wildly knowledgeable, AND are not afraid to knock some beers back and dance on tables with you. This trip is absolutely what you make of it. Commit to learning everyone's name. Stay out late. Let Venice take your breath away. See Paris from the Eiffel Tower at night. Save more money than you think you need and pack less clothes. Make room for souvenirs. I am absolutely happy to talk to anyone about this trip -- any excursion in any city. What to do, what to skip. Give you my packing list (of things I brought and things I wish I had.) Just message me with any questions -- no matter how weird you think they are. All you need to know now is that you totally made the right choice to do this tour. The rest will fall in place.

Disappointing quality of Me Time Optional

I had the Tuscan optional meal in Florence last night. Someone found a maggot in the main dish and a fly on the dessert. It was disgusting and disappointing to say the least in how it was handled. Don't opt in for the optional meals, it's expensive and you don't get the quality meal you're told to expect. We were told 4 pastas, we got 3, the chicken had maggots and the dessert had flies. It also cost over 30 euro.... And no effort was made to resolve the situation.

Sooooo Goodd #noragrets

This was literally the best trip I have ever done, like ever! This was my first time traveling completely solo and I was really nervous, but those nerves were soon put to rest. Everyone on the tour was so nice, the bus was comfortable and our driver was a legend. The hostels weren't great and either was the food but half the time you weren't in your bed and you soon forgot about the food, I mean you're in EUROPE! I have made some fantastic friends from all over the world and have some fantastic memories. The nightlife was great, one of the funniest memories being when our group played a drinking game underneath the Eiffel (when do you ever do that, it was so unreal) I have already booked my next Contiki and couldn't recommend this trip enough. One piece of advice: try everything, step outside of your comfort zone because the memories that come from doing that are AMAZING.

Exactly as per the title - highlights!

This was a fantastic tour, in the instance where we were able to see the 'highlights' of Europe (exactly as per the title). This was good for us, as we were time limited and wanted to cram as much in as possible. However, there were a few downsides. Firstly, the accommodation was often out of the way from the towns (so you had to stick to the group schedule unless you were willing to take a boat on your own back to some camp site 30 mins away from Venice). Some of the accommodation was infested by mosquitos - mainly the campsites. Secondly, we were expected to do a session of 'chores' where we had to help serve or clean up after a meal. This was really inconsistent as, while I was never allocated a shift, other people were allocated two (in the 2-week period). Slightly poor form, considering we'd paid to go on holiday. Food was a reminder of boarding school, and being in the middle of no-where meant we didn't have a choice. Thirdly, our tour guide made the tour seem like a school trip. Not fun when we are bullied into doing things we don't want to do, under the guise of 'fun'. This was a minor complaint, and it was amusing seeing the tour guide explain that we should give her positive feedback otherwise the company asks her questions. Our tour guide also discouraged us from visiting nearby Cannes when we were in Nice, stating we wouldn't have time. (We did though!). Forth, we really underestimated the distance between some of the locations, and spent a LOT of time on a bus. Had we known this, we may have thought twice about coming on this trip. Overall, some great memories and met some lovely people! Seeing Paris/the Eiffel Tower and heading to Oktoberfest were my highlights. Would probably think twice about doing this type of tour again though.

Absolutely Amazing

Going on this tour was seriously the best decision I've ever made. From the places we visited to the new and amazing friends I made, it was honestly perfect. You get to experience so much in what seems like a short amount of time, but trust me when I say it's just enough! The cities that you'll visit are must sees and you'll go home with tons of amazing pictures that will last you a life time. Our tour manager (Jaimie) and our coach driver (Jim) were incredibly fun, friendly and were very good at their jobs. Overall, this is definitely a tour that would be perfect for anyone and I'm so glad that I was able to go on it. Can't wait to plan my next tour!

The time of my life!

I chose this tour because it suited my budget as a uni student, it was my first time overseas and I was a little hesitant to do one of the longer tours and finally because it ticked of 90% of Europe's well known, must-see sights. And it was probably the best decision of my life! This was my first trip overseas and I travelled solo, which was quite daunting and I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. But everyone is so friendly and all there for the same reason and there were many other solo travellers as well. I found myself making new friends the night before the tour had even begun. Our tour manager Sophie and driver Sergio were incredibly fun, so knowledgeable and would do everything they could to ensure you had the time of your life. On the first night they even broke the rules and let us hope off the bus for a 10 minutes photo opportunity at the Eiffel Tower during our sightseeing coach tour. Everyday is something different and there is a good combination of included sights and activities, optional extras (which I suggest you do them all!) and free time to see a few things of your choice. There is quite a bit of travel time involved in this tour, but time on the coach is a good chance to relax and recharge the batteries. I mostly enjoyed the accommodation, it is budget quality and you do stay in rooms with up to five other people but you're only there to sleep. That's another thing - sleep - don't expect to get too much of it. But if you're only in Europe for two weeks you are mad if you don't seize every opportunity to have fun and explore your surroundings, you can sleep when you get home! The included food was wholesome and usually more than you could eat. If you're thinking about doing this tour, just do it! Every moment will become a lifelong memory and you won't be able to stay away from Europe for long after you'd had a taste.

A highlight of Europe

This is a great tour packed full of all the main attractions around Europe. 14 days is the perfect amount of time to see and experience what Contiki is all about. The added extras are definitely worth doing and your sure to have an experience of a life time. My tour leader was awesome and gave the whole bus a great understanding of what to do and see in each country we went to. Made some great friends from all around the world. Definitely a must!

A Gnarly Two Weeks!!

I chose to go on a Contiki tour because I was already going to Europe, but had no idea what I was doing. I figured Contiki would kind of introduce me to how Europe works! I never expected the trip to turn out how it did though. I was kind of nervous because, before we all met up in London, I had already been there several days and enjoyed my free time to do with what I wanted. Although, once the tour started I didn't really worry about that much. I loved spending time with everyone and we got enough free time too. I'm not sure if it's how Contiki is or if my group just got lucky but our Contiki family was amazing! We all got so close extremely quickly. I never worried about partying in Paris or Florence because I knew if something bad were to go down, one of the group mates would be there! We looked out for each other and had a fucking blast. Now, onto the tour manager and driver. Rhett was our TM and Rasto was our driver.. They are bloody awesome!! Honestly, I miss them! They were super rad dudes in general and brilliant at there jobs. My friend, that came with me on this tour, got really drunk in Florence and when I ran into her I saw right away she needed to go home. Right away, a guy from our tour came over to help me and then Rhett saw me with her and helped me. He just snapped on and got shit done. Rasto and Rhett never crossed a line, they were A LOT of fun and did an amazing job as well, every day. When we watched everyone go on the bus back to London from Amsterdam, my friends and I wanted to cry! It was so sad seeing everyone go right after we had gotten so close with everyone. I can't wait to do another Contiki let alone go to Australia this upcoming summer to visit so of my new Aussie friends! I HIGHLY recommend going on this tour, even if you're by yourself, don't be daunted. Everyone befriends each other! Two of the best weeks of my life! Miss my Contiki fam, Rhett and Rasto!! You guys rock C: XX-- Jaq

The most amazing trip I will never forget!

It was my first trip with Contiki and I went with two friends on the European Highlights tour. Considering it was my first time to Europe, I thought going this way would minimize the amount of "guess work" in terms of getting around, knowing where to go and what to do, etc. What I got was 100x more than that! This trip paved the way to having loads of new friends which I still keep in touch with a year later. We saw the most amazing cities, landmarks and sites with our awesome tour manager Amy who gave us the low down on just about everything. There was always something to do, parties to be had and it was hands down the best two weeks of my life. Be warned though, this trip is going to test your endurance like crazy! It was just go, go, go! But it was worth the lack of sleep, tired mornings and long days. It's only 2 weeks guys, don't waste it on sleep!!! Thanks Contiki for the awesome memories! I'll be doing a Thailand Contiki tour next, can't wait!

The best thing I've ever done

This trip was amazing! Not too long, not too short, the perfect timing. Our guide Kate and driver Jimmy were outstanding. I would do this again in a heatbeat. The sites we saw were great and the whole experience was awesome. If you're a firdt time Europe traveller, I'd do this exact trip!

Euro Highlights Summer 2013 Review

Contiki first appealed to my friends and I because we had never been to Europe, and didn't know where to start. With this tour, we got to see all the main highlights in a quick 2 weeks! Yes the tour was super fast paced, but you saw the main things, and now we know where we want to spend more time! Don't expect anything luxurious about the accommodation, it's called a budget tour for a reason! We actually preferred the Contiki campsites (because you got to mingle with everyone and they all had a bar), where-as the hotels were BUDGET! As for the breakfasts, they were a continental breakfast, so it is exactly what you would expect: toast, fruit, cereal. Do the optional meals! I did them all except the one in Paris, and they were great! (Especially the one in Florence!!!) Be prepared to spend a lot on the optional excursions. I thought it was going to be a lot cheaper, but I ended up spending around $350 CAD. (But most of them were worth it!) My only complaint. For our Contiki stop over at the Chateau in France, we pulled up, did the wine tasting, and then were told we were not staying there tonight, instead we drove to Lyon, France. Contiki had over-booked and our tour got moved. My friends and I thought this was a joke! We were so excited to stay here, we had heard amazing stories about it. Instead we stayed in the dirtiest hotel ever with a noise curfew, and were given $10 euros for dinner. 10 EUROS IS SUCH A JOKE. That doesn't even buy you McDonalds in France! (We were given $10 euros because at the stop over that was one of our included meals). Other than that HUGE disappointment, Contiki was good. Lots of great memories, met some great people, and got to see a ton! I'm not sure if I would recommend Contiki to others just because of the hiccup in France that I believe was not handled properly, but I did have a good experience with the rest of it. Cheers!

#NOREGRETS!

If you're reading this, it's probably to see whether or not doing a Contiki tour is the right thing for you; look no more! Trust me when I say it was the most AMAZING time of my life. This particular tour is draining in more ways than one, you see soo much of Europe in 2 weeks. Yes, there will be early mornings and yes, there will be LONG bus rides, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's most definitely an adventure of a life time. The bus is a second home, a place for recaps of the night before (or at least what you can remember). You will learn to love the bus. The one question I get asked is always about the optionals. My opinion - do them! Everyone else does and it's something fun to do with the group. I skipped a few based on the short amount of period in each city and decided to prioritise my time elsewhere. All tour inclusions (accommodation and food) were perfectly fine - no problems at all. And finally, the people. I was a little hesitant, but I can happily say, I now have a bunch of amazing friends all over the world who made the experience 100 times better than what I imagined. Friendships form extremely quickly, and after two weeks with one another, we were more of a family. It doesn't matter where you are from or how old you are, I guarantee you will have the time of your life. Smile at Europe, and it will smile back at you!!!

Incredible

I didn't think within the timespan we had in each city we would have enough time to experience a lot, but with our tour manager Treasa and our bus driver Majick they had managed to let us see the sights as much as possible. I did most of the metime options and I recommend to do every single one of them because everyone does them anyway and it's a good time to interact with everyone and experience everything all at the same time. The accommodation wasn't very fancy but it seems like a small con out of the whole trip. Just keep in mind to bring a power board or some type of adapter with a lot of USB ports because there aren't very much power outlets. I met so many people on my trip that were around the same area I lived in and it was amazing how sad it was to leave everyone even though we knew each other for only 14 days. But i've managed to keep in touch with a lot of people i've met on tour even though they're from another state or country. They weren't kidding when they said you first travel with strangers and leave as a family.

Horrible accommodations

Im telling you, Please don't waste your money supporting this company. I was so upset most of the time. There were bedbugs at all but one of our accommodations! Everyone got bit including me! The trip itself was a sex fest / drunk fest. The trip manager encouraged it. It was just gross. The trip as a whole, complete disappointent and so much money wasted. 3 other people and I got our own personal hotel several of the nights because we didn't want to sleep with the bedbugs. So much money wasted. Hopefully this will save you some. :( such a crap company.

This was the first Contiki I have ever done, and it won't be my last. I couldn't have asked for a more amazing experience! Everything was great. Our tour manager, Ryan H, was amazing. He was so funny and nice. Really easy to talk to and super friendly. Super helpful with everything and really invested his time into planning a good trip for us. He and Pedro did a lot of extra stuff that I know wasn't required of them to do, like planning extra excursions for us and helping us plan our own stuff. Our driver Pedro was also awesome! Such a good driver. He can parallel park the huge coach into a tiny space with his eyes closed. He also socialized with us a lot and took his own time to help us too. Pedro and Ryan together were a great team. #pedroparksthings The parties were always awesome! The accommodations were usually out of town so it's too much to try and go into town to party. The Contiki villages and chateau's have their own club/bar. There's usually other tours staying the same time as your tour so you meet lots of people and it's cheap drinks and sooo much fun haha. The bar in Rome has a dance pole ;) When we did stay in town Ryan always took us to really cool bars and clubs, and we got free entry and usually a free shot with it too :) I loved the accommodations. They may not be for everyone though, all 3 places in Italy are like log cabins and mobile homes. I never had an issue with them, no bed bugs, super clean, never ran out of hot water for the showers(except in Rome, your room doesn't have hot water, you have to use the public shower if you want hot water) All the on site team members are great too! All the me time optional's were amazing. Pretty much everyone on our tour did all of the me time optional's! I would recommend doing all the ones you can, it's worth it! By the end of your tour you form a Contiki family and you miss them dearly when the tour is over. I can't say enough good things about the people that were on my tour. We all got along so well and we still keep in touch on the facebook group we made. I could go on and on about all the amazing things about contiki, but my review is long enough. If you're thinking about doing a contiki; trust me, do it. You won't regret it!

Tour Review

My Contiki trip to Europe was superb! I never expected so much fun was generated from the travel mates together with our TD and TM. Our TD Marco, is a very dedicated driver to his coach and his passengers. He kept the coach 5 stars rated in cleanliness every morning when we got into the coach. I always known Singapore has the highest standard in terms of the overall management of a registered coach, but this time, Marco has done beyond excellent and I am very touch as a traveller. I always feel safe when Marco is around and he gave the best tips on what to be aware of in terms of directions. Our TM Garai, is a guy who never fail to check if everything is satisfaction level with every traveller. Garai always encourage us to talk to him on any problems or dislikes about the itineraries or with his conduct as a TM. To me, he is a walking history channel, street directories, food guide book. He amazes me with the amount of knowledge that is contained in his brain. Not to forget to mention that he has a great list of songs that always keep the boredom away during coach day. Together the TD and TM made my contiki trip perfect. I would strongly advice my friends to take on any trip if I know they are the TD and TM. They are two valuable travel companions to have given any tour at any time.

Amazing from start to finish!!

I'm from the UK and this was the perfect way to see all the best sites of Europe...and make some awesome friends. I always tell my friends to do Contikis just because its easier and a lot less scary than going by yourself! Accomodation was pretty good for 'basic' accommodation, not that we spent long in our rooms, we were either sightseeing or partying and we saved sleep for the bus! I'd recommend this tour to anybody, I've travelled to Europe loads of times before and I've never ever had the opportunities to do the things I did on my tour.
