I thought the trip was great overall, but it could have been a bit better. I booked the trip last minute and was told that the group I would be traveling with is at capacity (50-60) people. Contiki told me I need to wait 3 to 4 business days for final approval. I reality the group was 32 people. So that was a bit strange. But back to reviewing the trip, the hostels actually were not that bad as described by others, the food was very basic everywhere (including the add-on dinners). I had visited 3 cities in Italy and I not even once had a delicious meal (partly maybe my fault for choosing the wrong places on my own). But food and accommodations are secondary, what is really important is the destinations and people. There were moments where in a boring city we would spend a large amount of time doing nothing and then in the cool cities, we would have a lot less time and would be rushed to get back on the bus. And its not just me, but my entire group agreed with me. Example, Venice does not need 2 days, you can see the entire thing in half a day. Florence on the other hand has lots of potential, but we were there only half a day. It would be nice if Contiki prioritized destinations a little better. Also, majority of nightlife destinations just included Contiki members. The entire point of traveling is to experience the local vibe and culture, meaning mingling with the locals, so I think this topic can be improved. And finally, it would be great if there were more games or sport activities which would allow Contiki groups to engage more amongst groups and amongst themselves. Partying is great, but everyday for 20 days, I don't know, hahaha, maybe sometimes it would be nice to switch it up :). Oh yea, and the Contiki tour guide was great and very knowledgeable guy, but I had trouble understanding his Australian accent sometimes, hahaha... At destinations some tour guides were great (Florence) and some were horrible (Colloseum, Rome). If Contiki could hand pick the good ones, that would really enhance the experience.
