Grand Southern (Start NYC)

I can't express in words how amazing this trip was. I put in a lot of time researching my options before deciding on this trip and can safely say for what you pay on this trip you would not even be able to put half of it together yourself. You get the perfect amount of time in each place (sometimes when a trip takes you to a lot of places it can feel rushed, but this trip did not feel like that at all), and the bus days aren't so long as those of Contiki's in Europe. I highly recommend starting this tour in NYC instead of the LA to NYC option, as starting in NYC means you finish the trip in Las Vegas, which is a lot more fun with your Contiki family after getting to know them for the last twenty odd days! Also, the bar at the hotel in Washington was the perfect place for our tour group to get to know eachother that first night. Speaking of Contiki family...it sounds like such a cliche, but you really do form such a bond with the people on your tour. This trip made me some lifelong friends (I've just booked a trip to Europe with a couple of girls I met on this tour) who made this trip everything it was. Everybody says this in the reviews but it is so true...don't be worried if you are travelling alone, you will make instant friends! Although I personally didn't travel alone the majority of our tour group were, and it didn't matter at all. We all became instant friends and did everything together...there was always somebody to hang out with. The optional extras are another thing that made this trip! I honestly recommend doing as many of them as possible. The snowmobiling in Colorado and the Hot Air Ballooning were my top 2 optional extras, I can't even describe how amazing they both were. Unfortunately the helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon did not go ahead for our tour as there was far too much fog, but this is obviously one not to miss if you can. The cowboy stadium tour was good, but if you aren't interested in American football then you may not find it that interesting, the stadium itself is very impressive and on another level to any stadium I've seen, but not being interested in football myself that's all I really got out of that tour. In Memphis the Sun Studios and Rock & Soul Museums were both good tours that most of our group participated in and quite enjoyed. The Taste of New Orleans and School of Cooking optionals in Nola didn't run for our tour because nobody signed up for them, however almost everybody signed up for the Airboat Swamp tour which was great. Universal studios in Orlando is a must do!! Especially if you are interested in Harry Potter...the Harry Potter world there is amazing! In Miami there were three optionals...do all of them! The speed boat ride was so much fun and a cool way to see the houses of the rich and famous. The bike tour was a great way to see a lot of Miami, and is fine for any fitness level. The best optional in Miami however is the party boat cruise! Warning with this one though...when they tell you to eat dinner before the boat, do it!! This is a mistake many of us (myself included) made and paid for later. It is an open bar (you do still have to tip for each drink so make sure you take some dollar bills along) and the free pour is strong! After the boat we got taken to Mansion nightclub, which is a very well known nightclub in Miami, and heaps of fun from what I can remember! There was only one optional that I was disappointed by and that was the Cirque du’ Soleil show in Vegas. Not many people on the tour were impressed by this show...I'm not sure if it was maybe just the particular show that we saw though because Cirque du' Soleil obviously have a very good name for themselves otherwise. Our tour guide also set up a few other extra things for us as well, such as a Lakers match in Nola and a burger eating challenge. We had a pretty great Contiki crew. Our tour guide was Ryan and our driver was Ricky. I can't speak highly enough of them both. The made the trip exceed my expectations by a mile. Don't think twice about booking this tour...just do it. It will be one of your best decisions yet!

Tour Review

It was a really good trip, nice and long.. Going in the winter was really nice because it wasn't warm or really cold, just nice.. The bus was really nice, heaps of leg room at the rear of the bus but nothing from the centre forward.. Other than that it was a really good tour, the driver and the manager was really good at their jobs.. Next long USA tour will be the Grand Northern, propably around September because i want to be in NY for the 10th anniversary of 9/11..

Best experience ever!!

This trip was honestly the best thing I've ever experienced! Our Contiki Trip Manager Rachel, and bus driver Marquise, were awesome!! They are so knowledgable and went absolutely above and beyond. What this trip covers is amazing, you see such a variety of places. I would recommend starting in New York and ending in LA as leaving Las Vegas until the end was very exciting. I would do it all over again if I had the chance

Such an amazing trip, so glad I did it

It was my first Contiki and I am so glad I did it. I met so many interesting people and my fellow travellers were really friendly. Our driver and tour guide were awesome and looked after us really well. Some of the amazing things I did on the trip include Speed boating in Miami, Hot Air ballooning in Albuquerque, Visiting Graceland in Memphis, A limo ride along the strip in Las Vegas and Universal Studios in Orlando.

Trip of a lifetime!

I signed up for this trip having never travelled on my own before. I thought about it for a long time, researched the options, and I picked Contiki Grand Southern - best decision I've made in a hell of a long time! The itinerary for this trip is mind blowing, we experienced such a variety of cultures, food, nightlife & landscape, I'd never have believed you could fit all of that into 26 days. From lively New York to laid back Savannah; historical DC to snowy Durango; scenic Monument Valley to grownup Disneyland Las Vegas - this trip has it all. At no point during the 4 weeks was I bored (which is pretty impressive considering the amount of miles covered on this adventure!) There's always someone to chat to, play cards with, watch movies or listen to music with, or just generally get to know. And that's what makes the trip over and above all the other great things that happened - the ContikiFam! Within a few days we were a family (cheesy I know, but I stand by it), and we did everything together - Sightseeing, eating, drinking, sharing rooms, exploring, partying, chilling, shopping and trying new stuff. The Contiki staff on our trip contributed hugely too. Daz (our driver) got us everywhere safe and on time, and was a good guy for a chat too. Bushy (our Tour Manager) took the trip to another level. She was always full of energy & recommendations for where to eat, drink or explore; she helped us set up extra activities on top of the Contiki Optionals, and she partied and hung out with us most of the time. Honestly the coolest person I've met in a long time. As far as activities go, for the first time on this trip I: Drove a snowmobile, fired a machine gun, toured Miami by speedboat, flew in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon & a hot air balloon over Albuquerque, got kicked out of a Vegas nightclub for being super wasted, visited Universal Studios, drank a Hand Grenade in New Orleans, watched 2 NBA games, an NHL game & an NFL game, and experienced the best Creole food New Orleans had to offer. And more, much, much more! The "helpful hints" for writing this review is asking if I would recommend this trip - HELL YES! If you're on the fence or undecided, take the chance. You'll have #NoRegrets, trust me.

I would recommend this tour to anyone!

This tour ecompases the best of the southern states of the USA. It took me to the places I have always wanted to go (Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, New York, Miami) and other places I hadn't really thought a lot about but fell in love with (New Orleans, Memphis & Savannah). The optionals were mostly great and good value for money, the only two I wouldn't recommend would be the cooking class in new orleans (too much else to see) & the dinner cruise in New Orleans also, we were the only people on there under the age of 40 and too expensive for what it was. All the hotels were impecible, our tour manager Camille was hilarious, approachable and full of information. She always seemed to lift the mood no matter how sick and hungover we all were! & the food was what you would expect from the USA but better! I had the trip of a life time on this tour and would do it all over again if I could! If you're considering booking this tour, just do it now!

Grand Southern USA

The only way to see the USA. I saved thousands due to the included activities and there is just no way to know all the cool local spots they take you along with the local knowledge from your guide. A really good part was getting free entry into the most exclusive night clubs in the US.
