Would highly recommend LA to Bay for people who want to see and do a lot in a relatively short period of time, with the convenience and benefit of having a local expert do everything for you!
There is a great balance between group activities and free time, and it is made very clear that you can tailor the experience to your own interests. There are always options, it’s up to you what you decide to do (for example, you can choose to engage in the awesome nightlife or you could choose to stay in and wake up early to do a hike/activity instead.... or why not both!!). The destinations along the way are all very interesting and varied, from city to desert to forest etc etc. And the group leader/driver are fantastic because they give you so much valuable information all day, every day about the history of the destinations, good places to eat, tips of navigating the geography and culture etc.!
The travel group is very large (52 people) but by the end of the first week it felt like we were one big happy family! And you can choose to be as social or antisocial as you like, there are no obligations to do what the group leader plans (but I would recommend it, because that’s what makes the experience so special)!
Highlights for me include: Balboa Park in San Diego, Hot air ballooning in Phoenix, exploring the little river in Sedona, absolutely everything to do with the Grand Canyon, Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park, the Circ Du Soleil show in Las Vegas, and travelling by cable car through the steep streets of San Francisco by cable car and getting off in China Town!
Also miss so much: pit stops to Walmart, fast food chains for days (chipotle and shake shack are the best), trader joes and WHOLEFOODS!!!
Make sure you save money for all of the additional activities because you will get there and want to do absolutely everything (I regret not doing the Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, but if you’re a keen hiker the helicopter does take up half your day so you might prefer to skip it for extra time on the trail anyway)!
The accommodation is really decent in each destination (no dodgy hostels!), but I think it’s better to pack light as you don’t want to waste time having to repack a huge suitcase every second day or so! The big bus is very comfortable but bring a blanket, earphones and neck pillow because you’ll be travelling a lot!!
Anyway, book now, you won’t regret it ;)
