Hi my husband & I are looking at going on the Winter Inspiration (19 day)in March 2011. We like the look of this tour because it has a 2 nights and a full day in every city. Just wondering on the free days does the bus drop you off & pick you in the city or do you have to get public transport? Also if you’re not doing the optionals can you still get a ride in & back with the bus or do you have to find your own way? And I read that the cog railway in Lucerne is shut in the winter, is this true? cause i really wanted to do that.
Thanks,
Amy

I have been racking my brain for a while trying to decide which trip to go on. They are close to the same length, but one is budget and one is superior. So I guess my question is are accomadations that different on budget, I heard they are far away from locations and therefore add to travel time instead of tour time. Just wondering what tour people would more likely recomend. Thanks ![]()

Hi All ![]()
I’m off on the European Escapade in less than a month (SO EXCITED!). I booked my trip last November, when I was fit and healthy! But, with my amazing good luck, I dislocated my kneecap two and a half months ago and will eventually need surgery
I can walk almost normally (I have a very slight limp and have to wear a stabiliser brace), and I’ve read up about making sure Contiki knows that I’ll come into the trip knowing about my injury and all that liability stuff.
What I really want to know if there is any times I should be aware of that are VERY strenuous on the knees, bicycling in Amsterdam, running to catch a bus, that sort of stuff.
I don’t want to miss out on anything, so need to know now what to expect so my physio and I can strengthen the knee up accordingly ![]()
Thanks a bunch in advance!
Lizz

I’m only going to be in London for a short time before my contiki tour in Jan 2010 and I am trying to plan my days. I am doing the 4 nights london explorer package thingy. I was wondering whether anyone knows what time the Bath and Stonehenge day trip arrives back in London?? Also, what time the theatre tickets are usually for…? As I want to figure out whether i can fit both into one day…
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps ![]()

are they worth getting?? i know they’re a bit outdated now, right? but i’m not loving the idea of carrying around a whole load of cash and though i can use my card abroad it charges me to do so i was wondering if anybody has used travellers cheques in western europe?

HI
I am wanting to do the reefs and rainforest tour for new year this year. and u can either start in cairns which means i would be in cairns for new year, or start in sydeny which lines me up to be in Surfers paradise on new year. what would be the better place to party for new year?

I booked the Beaches & Reefs tour with a friend choosing the “twin” room option.
Does that mean we will share a room at every location? Or, are there still locations where we will need to do a quadshare? Will we still need to sign-up at each location for roommates?
Will there be laundry facilities and free time anywhere along this tour? This info will help me decide how little I can pack.
Thanks!

Just wondering if anybody did the Grand southern during june?? and what the weather was like? i’ve heard some places are hot and some get quite cold at night, what type of clothes should i be packing? and is everyone party animals, i’m not that much of a drinker, am i going to fit in? one more question regarding rooms, as i’m travelling alone, do you get buddied up with someone and have to share your room with them for the whole tour?

Are there pay phones at the Contiki Basement? Or maybe somewhere near the Royal National Hotel?
After the tour is over I need to contact my cousin who lives in London to pick me up – just wondering what the best way would be to do this.
Thanks.

Just wanted to be clear about something – I’m coming from Canada and thinking about booking the European Discovery. If the dates are for May 4th to May 17th then I would expect to book my flight for May 4th correct? If I arrive the next day May 5th I’ll have all day and then the tour will start early the next morning??
Thanks!

Hello,
My parents are considering getting me a contiki trip for my grad present. I was wondering what the average ages of travellers are, and if it really makes a difference in terms of mingling (i.e. do the people form groups?)
thank you

Hi all, I will be jetsetting over to the UK at the end of june (first time O/S). I will be spending some time in london with cousins then i am wanting to tour europe then live & work in scotland… i have a 2 year visa.
I initially thought i should take the ultimate european trip (egypt option).. then i thought maybe i will take the greek island option as i will no doubt need a ‘break’ to chill out in the middle of such a long trip… i will then do the egypt trip on its own next year.
i want to see as much as i could and get best value for money… but i dont know how i will be able to keep up with everyone for 45 days. The long busy days then (from what most travelouges say parties every night)
I will be 27 soon, i still party with the best of them & love fun adventures, but i also have a nice cosy bed i can hide away from the world after a 3 day bender and recover!
so what are ppls suggestions? should i brave the huge adventure or take a few of the smaller tours over the next 2 years?

Just wondering if anyone know’s how much a visa is?
Heading on 3 contiki tours: Egypt and the Nile, European Vista and the Eastern Road…
My fiance & I are from Australia, and our travel agent told us we need a visa for Egypt. On the list of costs it has $150 each for the visa, does this sound right?
Also, is this the only visa I will need?
Thanks, happy travels ![]()

Hi all,
Really trying to save as much $$$ as possible
and I was wondering if the optional excursion prices, listed on the website, are recent. Can we expect to pay roughly the same amounts listed or do they change depending on the seasons etc?…
Im doing the northern escape and southern adventure and Im particularly interested in the helicopter flights and hot air balloons ![]()
Just trying to figure out how much I can expect to spend on all the activities so any info will be really appreciated… thanx

Hi,
I’m going to be doing the Grand Explorer, leaving on December 30. I know it’s a long way away, but I’m trying to plan and budget for my optionals now. I have a couple of questions about Rotorua and I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me clarify these:
1. Are there any optionals that involve going to a mineral pool / spa? I’ve heard that some people went somewhere called the “Polynesian Spa”, but from what I can gather this was not a Contiki optional … ?
2. Is the cultural experience and hangi dinner the optional called "Te Puia? And if it’s not, how much does that optional dinner cost? (as it doesn’t seem to be in the list of optionals on the website).
3. If I did Zorbing and Tu Puia (and the optional dinner, assuming that it’s not the Te Puia thing), would I also have time to go to a spa?
Hope someone can help!
Cheers
Bek
