Hi all! I am going on the Euro Discovery at the end of December and part of the trip goes into Switzerland. Any advice on whether I need to get Swiss Francs, or should Euros be fine?

I am going on the Great Britain tour in March and will be doing the 4 night London Explorer after and I am just wondering how many pounds to budget per day. I know that Contiki says 75 per day and I’m wondering if this is about right or what other people found.

I was recently talking to someone about Ellis Island, and thought it’s actually a great place for visitors to visit when coming to NY. It’s not as sexy as Times Square, and the Empire State Building, but it’s a more historical place for the US. You’ll learn about the immigrants and the process of entering the country – which is a big part of the story of the US. I went a couple years ago and the museum is very nice.

Hiya. I’m staying in Athens for two days in between contiki trips. Just wondering what hotels people have stayed in and where they would recommend??

Hi all,
Im no stranger to Contiki. I’ve done 4 – LA Explorer, & LA to the Bay one year and then the next year I did the Grand Southern and NY Explorer. I loved them so much that my enthusiasm has finally convinced a couple of friends to come with me to the States. The places theyre keen on seeing are the ones this tour goes to. Though I’ve seen them all before Im more than willing to see them again because theres so much to see and do that I didnt do last time. Anyways…my question is – does the tour manager fly with the contikiers and is the same tour manager for the whole trip or do you get a new one in each city?
Thanks
Aaron

I’m going on the London to Athens in August 2010. Afterwards I plan to spend some time in Greece. I probably watch too much news but I’ve been following the economic situation in Greece. In the past month there have been strikes, (including hospitals and airports). The government is in debt and is introducing taxing the church (Greek Orthodox) as a revenue raiser. I have an understanding of what is going on however I am unsure about the ramifications.
Here is what I think will happen, I’m not sure if this is right or not? Please let me know of your opinions.
1. If the economic situation gets to the worst and can’t pay back there debt the other Euro using countries will bail Greece out. The effect on exchange rate will be minimal since Greece is just one country using the Euro.
2. Strikes and so forth will probably not be as bad as in the European summer during the tourist season. In anycase those in Greece on tours probably won’t notice while in the Contiki group.
Do these assumptions sound reasonable?
If I was just going on the tour in Greece I wouldn’t be bringing this up but since I am planning on spending some time there after my tour I have been following the news there.

Could somebody tell me the cost of Travel Insurance in addition to booking the tour? Also, what is involved with Travel Insurance?

This may be kind of random… but I feel like asking it anyway.
Two souvenirs I can’t wait to get my hands on are a real German Coo Coo Clock and a beer stein!
Does anyone remember the round about price of these things?
I’m guessing I should expect to pay about 100euros for the clock, not sure about the Stein… I’m just doing up a budget now and it’d be nice to know if I need an extra 100-250 euros for these things alone.
Also… have any of you brought these things home? I’m thinking the best way to bring them home is to wrap them up and put them in my carry on…

Hi I’m Kailash planning on doing Greek Island Hopping next yr.As mentioned I’m from India and most probably gonna travel solo.I had few qs in mind.
Let me start off by saying I don’t wanna offend anyone or intend to do anything like tht..
1.Being an Indian will tour group able to accept me as I’m Indian and majority of people being aussies…
2.Do u think going solo is a good idea??
3.Is contiki the best option fr such a tour or busabout is better..(busabout is 30% cheaper)
I’m pretty open minded person who doesn’t care what color or race anyone is from.I respect everyone equally..

Hi, I have what may be a strange question. It seems like the consensus is that most people travel with suitcases on Contiki trips. I am planning on staying a few days longer and will be staying in backpacker hostels. Is it acceptable if I have a suitcase instead of a backpack at these hostels? Do quite a few people have suitcases at hostels?
