hey i was just wondering what folks were packing for their trips to italy this summer? i keep laying out my clothing on my bed and sometimes it looks like i’m taking too much…and at other times i feel like i don’t have enough.

and i was also wondering if people have booked or are going to book tickets to the museums, the vatican, etc. prior to the trip. i’ve read some articles that say you should reserve tickets to certain museums, like the Uffizi, but i keep worrying about us not getting to the specific cities on time (like suddenly there’s a big traffic jam) and me losing my ticket. is anyone reserving tickets?

i’m going on the tour arriving in rome on june 18, ending on june 29. if anyone that reads this is on this tour, let me know.

take care.

I’m going on the London/Paris/Rome trip with a close friend of mine. How does Contiki arrange room sharing? When I first arrive in London, we’re to check in around 2pm and meet up with the group at 6pm, so how can we arrange to have our room together?

Hey all…

I saw this link today being talked about on “Live with Regis and Kelly”

I took a look at it, and it’s got some good info on there…thought I’d share it for those going to the Big Apple.

Hi All,

Im abit confused about the idea of guaranteed departures…I picked up the new Europe brochure today and on page 8 it talks about the guaranteed deaprtures, and that if there is a tick next to the date that means it is guaranteed to depart, unless of course there is extenuating circumstances (like political unrest or somthing). It then goes on to say that they will not reschedule tours within 50 days of departure through peak season (in other words, they can still reschedule these so-called “guaranteed departures” as long as they give 51 days or more notice.

This doesnt seem right to me…How can they call something a guaranteed departure when in actual fact they can cancel it as long as its with 50+ days notice?

It also bugs me because the tour I am thinking of doing leaves on april 24 (a G.Departure) yet the peak seson is may-septemeber, in which case they can cancel my tour with less than 50 days notice.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Am I getting the right end of the stick here?

Would like to have a room and ensuite to ourself but be someone central and obviously clean and not expensive… size doesn’t bother us we just wanna be clean and safe! Any help would be appreciated.

I would love to do a Grand Canadian or Canada & The Rockies tour departing in early October but the latest departure dates are in September when the footy season is still on!

I realise it starts getting cooler in Canada in October but I checked weatherbase.com and it’s not too cold – warmer than in Grand Southern destinations Cortez & Washington in December.

If there was enough interest maybe Contiki would add an additional departure date – I’d be a definite starter!

Hello

I’m looking at options for storing photos when I’m in europe and I’m probably going to fill my 2GB card many times over so I need to have a way of storing my photos for the 45ish days.

I was planning on just having writeable DVDs, but nobody has seemed to mention this. From what I’ve read most people have multiple memory cards. I’d rather not go that option as I need special ones on my camera for some of the features and cost $130NZ each.

I figure with DVDs I’ll have no problem when I’m in germany(I’m there for 5 months first) and pommyland but with countries in the baltic region, czech turkey etc are DVD writers common?

Do I need to bring any nice clothes. Like do I need dress pants or
dress shoes?  Or is tennis shoes, jeans, and a collar shirt be
fine for dinner or clubs?

Thanks for your advice.

Hello all. I will give you a real scoop on Contiki as well. I am experience traveller with Contiki. I have done a few contikis already. European Vista. Scandinavia and Russia, Spanish Spree, Golden Fleece and spent time at contiki resort in Mykonos Resort.

All I have are positive reviews on Contiki. Its good way to get a taste of every aspect of travel to every country. You do get a taste of the culture while at same time you see all the main sights and have great times with social as pect.

The main aspect of doing a Contiki is the social Aspect. As thats whats its gear for. For if you all u want to do is see the sights and not socialize then perhaps another way of travel is best.

Contiki has been a positive experience. I have people from all over the world. As well i have maintain to keep in touch with all of my travel friends. With that in mind i have come with a different view on the world.

In conclusion i highly recommend Contiki to anyone. And travelling is the best medicine.

If anyone has any questions regarding Contiki or anything with tours with them or anything on Europe.

Feel free to ask me questions.

For the weighing of your luggage is it only your main bag that they weigh? Or are they picky about your day bag as well?
Also, do they only weigh it once at London at the beginning of the trip?
Cos if you have a decent sized backpack or something you could probably stuff that with some of the heavier things like shoes until you stop at your first destination couldnt you?
Haha sounds so dodgy but im a little worried about the weight restriction.

Hey!

I heard that in the States, the airport official will cut your lock to inspect your luggage?

Is this true?

What am we supposed to do, if we cant use combination or key locks?

IF they cut the locks off, wont it be unsafe then, as its easy to steal your stuff and put illegal items in your luggage?

Im really confused and scared now, cos it will be my first overseas trip, and will be going in a few months time.

Anyone been on the LA to the bay tour? When you get to San Fran, how does it work? obviously your no longer part of the tour but all your group will be staying in the hotel too? Can u still hang out with the tour until they leave 2 nights later? I wish contiki tours included time in the arrival and depature cities!

Also – the optionals seem really expenisve but I would love to do the balloon flight and maybe even the helitour of GC – anyone done these? are they worth the money? Does the balloon flighting get cancelled often? I really hope it is not too windy or something when i’m there!

I’m going on the 25th of August – LA to the Bay tour! I’m 21 and will be travelling on my own. Have done tours in Europe before but this is my first ‘contiki’ trip! Anyone else on that tour?
