clear searchThe Vietnam climate is super diverse, but overall, March-April and Sept-Nov are your suggested sweet spots. Expect warm weather, less rainfall and comfy exploring weather across Hanoi, Hoi An, Halong Bay, Ho Chi Minh City and beyond.
May-August brings peak heat, with June often topping the charts. Summer weather in Vietnam can hit 33°C, especially in the south, so pack light clothes and sunscreen, but be ready for afternoon showers too.
The Vietnam winter weather is varied, but manageable too. January is Vietnam’s chilliest month, especially in the north. Hanoi and Sa Pa can dip to 10°C, while Ho Chi Minh City stays a balmy 25°C.
The Vietnam rainy season will depend on where in the country you are. May-Sept is generally wet in the north and south, while central Vietnam (Hoi An, Hue) gets heavy rain from Sept-Dec. Expect quick bursts though, rather than all-day downpours.
Vietnam’s dry season runs Dec-Apr in the south (Ho Chi Minh City sunshine, anyone?), while the north is coolest and driest Oct-Apr. Prime time for beaches, cruises, and epic city exploring? You bet.
Snow in Vietnam? It does indeed, but only in highland areas like Sa Pa in the far north. Don’t expect fluffy slopes though – snowfall is rare and short-lived here, more one-off than fully fledged ski season.
The best time to visit Sa Pa is March-May or Sept-Nov. Expect clear skies and mild temperatures of around 15-25°C – perfect trekking conditions in this breathtaking corner of Vietnam.
