What is a coach tour?

A couch tour is a trip where you predominantly travel by coach from city to city. The trip follows a pre-planned itinerary, designed to show you the hot spots (and hidden gems) of your destination in a short space of time. Contiki coach tours include a Trip Manager, whose job it is to bring the trip to life – they’ll teach you about your destination, recommend things you can do in your spare time, and generally co-ordinate the trip so you can sit back, relax and forget worrying about the logistics.

What is included in a Contiki coach tour?

Contiki coach tours include hostel or hotel stays, expert road crew, breakfast & some other meals, and other activities listed on the trip page – this can include tours of the city by coach.

What should I wear on a coach tour?

This depends on where you’re going and the time of year you’re travelling. In the summer you’ll want lightweight, breathable and comfortable fabrics. In the winter, you’ll also want comfort but don’t forget to add layers. You’ll do a fair amount of walking as you stop in each city, so bring comfortable shoes too.

How much luggage can I bring on a coach tour?

This varies per region, but generally one medium-sized suitcase and a small carry-on bag will suffice. We’ll send you specific luggage guidance for your trip as part of your guest documents (usually 2-3 weeks before you go).

Are there rest stops during long coach journeys?

Absolutely! We’ll always stop en route during long drives. We may stop at service stations for a bathroom break, or we might stop in towns, cities or landmarks we pass along the way to discover more of the country we’re visiting.

Can I choose my seat on a coach trip?

You can’t reserve a seat in advance, but you are free to choose where you sit as you board the coach.

How much time will we spend on the coach?

This depends on the day, the trip, and where in the world you’re visiting. Make sure you’re prepared for longer drive days – download your fave podcasts or movies, or use the journey as a time for coach games and/or deep chats.

What facilities can I expect aboard the coach?

On our coaches, you’ll find air conditioning, reclining seats and a toilet. Most European coaches have Wi-Fi and USB charging ports too.

Is there a WiFi connection and USB ports on board?

This depends on the trip and the region. Most European coaches have Wi-Fi and charging access though. Top tip: bring an eSIM and a portable charger (useful items to have for travelling in general). Want to be sure before the trip starts? Your Trip Manager will reach out to the group a few days beforehand by text or email, and you’ll be able to ask.
