TRAVEL IN NAIROBI

Busy, boisterous and full of life, Nairobi is the colourful capital of beautiful Kenya. From visiting some of its amazing museums and attractions to learning about local cultures, there are so many things to do in Nairobi. Our suggestion? Start off by learning more about this incredible city at the Nairobi National Museum. Walk through the natural and political history of Kenya in its interesting cultural displays. Right next door, experience the rich Kenyan biodiversity at the Nairobi Snake Park. Be fascinated by live snake shows, and – if you’re game enough – feed a crocodile some live fish.

If you’re keen to learn more about the different cultural groups that call Nairobi home, check out the Bomas of Kenya. This cultural park features replicas of homesteads of seven different Kenyan tribes, as well as displays featuring musical instruments, traditional art and hunting tools and techniques.

Love a bit of African art? Visit the Nairobi National Gallery and spend some time admiring African masterpieces from different historical periods. There are also tonnes of different art and cultural festivals happening in Nairobi, including the Africa Noveau Festival, which features art and music performances, as well as fashion and culinary demonstrations, and the Safaricom International Jazz Festival, featuring some of the best local and international musicians.

One of the best things about Nairobi is its love for food. From the national cuisine to its street food, you’ll never go hungry in this city. Pick up a plate of chips mayai from a local vendor or tuck into slow-cooked nyama choma. If you’re in the city between January and February, splurge out at Nairobi Restaurant Week. Treat yourself to decadent meals at some of Nairobi’s best restaurants, which often come with free food pairings.

Of course, when in Africa, you’ll want to spend time in nature. Luckily for you, there are some amazing natural spots within 10 kilometres of the Nairobi city centre. Check out lions and buffalos at the Nairobi National Park and feed baby elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

With culture, nature and amazing food, you’ll love every second of your trip to Nairobi, Kenya.
