What currency does Belize use?

Belize uses the Belize Dollar (BZD), but USD is widely accepted too – super handy for travellers on the go. One less thing to stress about on your Belize trip!

When is the best time to visit Belize?

November to April is your sweet spot - AKA dry season. Think sunny days, cooler nights, and prime conditions for diving, snorkelling, and jungle exploring. Whether you're chasing waterfalls or chilling on the Cayes, this is the best time to go. It’s also festival season, so expect big vibes and even bigger adventures on your Belize trip.

What is the weather like in Belize?

Tropical vibes all the way. Expect warm weather year-round, with a wet season from June to October. Beach days? Almost guaranteed.

Do I need a visa to travel to Belize?

Most travellers won’t need a visa for a stay under 30 days – just a valid passport will do. To be safe, though, check the official government website of your home country/country of residence.

What is ATM access like in Belize?

ATMs are easy to find in cities and tourist areas, and most give Belize Dollars. Just let your bank know you're off on a Belize tour so your card doesn't get blocked.

How many days should I spend in Belize?

7-10 days should give you enough time to soak it all in – from Mayan ruins to island hopping. Our Mexico, Belize & Guatemala trip gives you the highlights of all 3 countries in just 11 days.

What should I pack for a trip to Belize?

Think light and breezy: swimwear, comfy shoes, bug spray, reef-safe sunscreen, and something for the rain too.

Do you tip in Belize?

Yup! Around 10-15% is the norm at restaurants. Tipping guides and drivers is also appreciated on most Belize tours.

Is tap water safe to drink in Belize?

It’s okay in most tourist spots. But bottled or filtered water is the safer bet, especially when you're heading off-grid.

Is internet access good in Belize?

Wi-Fi’s solid in hotels and cafes, but can be patchy in remote areas. If staying connected is key, try grabbing a local SIM.

What adaptor do I need for Belize?

Belize uses Type A and B plugs (same as the US), with 110V voltage. Travelling from outside North America? Your best bet is to bring a universal adaptor.

Is Belize LGBTQIA+ friendly?

Belize is making progress! While it’s still a bit conservative in places, LGBTQIA+ travellers are generally welcome – especially in tourist zones. And of course, when you travel with Contiki, you’re 100% welcome on each and every one of our trips, regardless of who you are, who you love and how you identify. You’ll join a group of friendly travellers from around the world, and you’ll have a Trip Manager to make the trip awesome, while also providing advice on how to get the best out of your destination.
