Visit a Maasai village

After our thrilling game drive through the Maasai Mara, we got to visit a Maasai village where we met a village elder and got an insight into their daily life. We explored a traditional boma and stood in awe as we watch the Maasai warriors display their jumping prowess in their red cloaks. A truly unmissable experience.

Explore Tsavo west national park

Tsavo West is one of Kenya’s larger national parks (9065 sq km), covering a huge variety of landscapes from swamps, natural springs and rocky peaks to extinct volcanic cones, rolling plains and sharp outcrops dusted with greenery. There are great landmarks worth visiting including recent lava flows and Mzima Springs with its underwater observation chamber for close-up views of hippos.

Visit the Karen Blixen Musem in Nairobi

If you loved reading 'Out of Africa' by Karen Blixen, or watching the movie, you should definitely visit the Karen Blixen Museum. Karen lived in Kenya from 1917 to 1931 and ran a coffee farm from her bungalow in the Ngong Hills. The museum is housed in the same place where the Danish author wrote her famous novel, and you can even see some of the movie props in the museum.

What to eat & drink in Kenya

After a big day of Kenya sightseeing, there’s nothing better than tucking into a plate of classic Kenyan food like fresh salads, satisfying stews and deep-fried desserts.

Mandazi

If you love doughnuts, you’ll fall head over heels for mandazi, the ultimate Kenyan doughnut. These deep-fried delights are made from dough flavoured with cinnamon or cardamom, then shaped into triangles and fried. They’re super soft and best eaten with honey, jam, or even a spicy curry.

Kachumbari

If you’re looking to cool down on a hot summer’s day in Kenya, it doesn’t get more refreshing than kachumbari. This gorgeous salad is made with chopped tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and avocado and flavoured with lime juice, cilantro and chilli peppers for an extra kick.

Ugali

You can’t go to Kenya without trying ugali, the most important side dish of any meal. This thick cornmeal porridge is kind of like a dough and can be served with salads or used to dip into stews or mop up spicy sauces.

When is best to visit Kenya

Whether you want to see the Great Migration on the Masai Mara or see the beautiful birds of the soda lakes, there’s always a good time to visit Kenya.

Best Time to go on a Kenya Safari

The best time for wildlife spotting is during the dry season from late June to October when the water dries up and animals congregate around the remaining water sources.

Best Time to See The Great Migration in Kenya

The greatest parade on earth reaches the Masai Mara in Kenya in August and remains until October before the mass of wildebeest thunder back to the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Best Time To go Bird Watching in Kenya

The wet season of November to May is a paradise for twitchers with masses of migratory birds, beautiful green landscapes, plus the chance to spot newborn animals.

Packing tips for Kenya

Brown and black dachshund sitting in an old fashioned trunk case

Biodegradable Bags

Plastic bags are banned in Kenya including Ziploc bags at the airport, so make sure you only bring carry bags made with materials like cotton

Mosquito Repellent

You’ll come across a few mosquitoes and other insects on your Kenya trip, so be sure to pack a strong mosquito repellent and apply it regularly.

Binoculars

Kenya is one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa, so come prepared with a pair of binoculars so you don’t miss a single elephant, lion or giraffe!

Pack for Sustainable Travel

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and refillable toiletry bottles.

How to Travel Responsibly in Kenya

Remember to Tip

Many communities in Kenya rely on the tourism industry and you can do your bit by tipping your guides, waiters, drivers, chefs and hotel staff at least 10% of the bill.

Dress Modestly

Kenya is a conservative country, so make sure you cover your legs and upper arms. Our tip? Buy a kanga, a local sarong which can be wrapped around for extra modesty or used as a towel or scarf.

Respect the Wildlife

A safari game drive in Kenya may be one of the most exciting experiences of your life, but it’s important to follow the rules, ever ask your guide to leave the trails, and never use flash photography around animals.
