The sand dunes and salt pans of the Namib Desert are truly out of this world. Come for a ride in our 4x4 vehicle and journey through the unbelievable beauty of Sossusvlei. We’ll climb the famous Dune 45 and the Big Daddy dune, and stop at Deadvlei, a white clay pan where ancient camelthorn trees sit in a striking contrast against the giant red dunes.

Explore the Erongo region

Namibia’s highlights just keep on rolling in the surreal landscapes of the Erongo Region, with massive boulders and rocky mountains formed from the 130 million-year-old remains of a volcano. We’ll go on a hike through the Erongo Mountains, check out the ancient rock art, and stop for a wine tasting in the high desert winelands of Omaruru.

Marvel at Sesriem Canyon

You'll feel a real sense of awe when you set eyes on Sesriem Canyon. It's around 3 kilometres long, 30 metres deep and was carved out millions of years ago by the Tsauchab River. We loved checking out the towering rock formations, including the natural sphinx-like formation near the mouth of the canyon.

Meet the Herero people

We stopped at Otijwa, the oldest game farm in Namibia, where we had the special opportunity of meeting the Herero people, a semi-nomadic tribe. They've held on to their traditional dress, culture and customs and we met some of the tribe members and learned how they make a livelihood tending livestock. It was a fantastic experience and a must for any trip to Namibia.

Visit the Owela musem in Windhoek

You'll learn all about the natural and cultural history of Namibia at the Owela Museum, with hundreds of cultural artefacts, natural specimens and dioramas of village life. You can also get in on Namibian life just outside the museum, where the locals play a traditional game with pebbles called Owela - which is how the museum got its name!

What to eat & drink in Namibia

Hearty meat and vegetable stews, spiced jerky and the famous Windhoek Lager… Namibian food is all about comfort and we’ll show you where to find the best eats in the country.

Biltong

Love munching on jerky? Then you’ll quickly get addicted to biltong, Namibia's answer to this dried meat snack. It’s made from cured meat, like beef, ostrich and wildebeest, and is spiced with all kinds of herbs like coriander. It’s the country’s go-to snack and you’ll find it everywhere from markets to restaurants.

Potjiekos

It doesn’t get more comforting than potjiekos, a heart meat and vegetable stew, flavoured with alcohol like sherry, beer or wine for an extra kick. It’s traditionally cooked in a three-legged cast iron pot and will bubble away over an open fire for hours. Grab a bowl and find out what this is one of Namibia’s favourite dishes.

Windhoek Lager

You can’t go to Namibia without trying the famous Windhoek beer. It’s been brewed for nearly a century using a simple recipe of malted barley, hops and water, all in the name of the Reinheitsgebot decree, a German Beer Purity Law that dates back to 1516. Raise a glass of Windhoek lager and taste a piece of history!

Best Time to Explore Namibia’s Desert

The desert is a beautiful sight any time of the year and we love it best from March to September when the temperatures are less scorching.

Best Time to go on a Namibia Safari

Wildlife spotting is at its best during the dry season from June to October, although you can visit the famous parks like Etosha all year round.

Best Time to Visit Namibia’s Coastline

Go exploring the coastal areas like Swakopmund from October to April when there are milder temperatures and better chances of spotting whales in Walvis Bay from October to November.

Namibia has both the darkest night skies in the world and some of the best animals in the world, so bring a pair of binoculars for incredible wildlife spotting and stargazing.

Versatile Clothing

You’ll come across all kinds of climates in Namibia from sweltering days to cold desert nights, so pack a variety of layers to stay comfortable whatever the weather.

Scarf

A scarf will be super useful for your Namibia trip. Wrap it around your head to keep the sun and sand out or use it to cover your shoulders when you need to dress modestly.

Consider your environmental impact when you next take a trip and go single-use-plastic-free by packing a reusable water bottle, a steel straw, your own shopping bags and refillable toiletry bottles.

How to travel responsibly in Namibia

Use Water Wisely

Water shortages are a huge problem in Namibia, and you can do your bit to save water by reusing towels and sheets and using buckets provided in the shower to catch water which can then be used for things like washing.

Be Kind to the Dunes

Most dune plants and animals live just 10cm under the surface, so if you go walking or quad biking through the dunes, always keep to the trail, drive slowly and avoid damaging the plants and wildlife.

Be Fire Safe

Fires burn hard and fast in the desert and can be extremely destructive, so make sure you never drop matches or cigarette butts on the ground.
