About this trip

There aren't many places on this planet more majestic than America's great National Parks. And if you want to see them in all their glory, this is the trip for you. What does that mean? It means dinner under the starlit skies of Zion (glamping in luxe Under Canvas tents). It means stumbling along the towering red cliffs and winding trails of Bryce Canyon, before finishing the evening with some s’mores. It means hiking and wildlife spotting in Yellowstone, and it means an exclusive Navajo led tour of Antelope Canyon with exclusive access to their private lands and beauty spots, as they even show us their customs and tell us stories around the campfire. It basically means, then, the trip of a lifetime, and the best way to experience America’s famed beauty spots all in one go.

DAY 1 - Las Vegas to Zion via Bryce National Park

Las Vegas

Welcome to Vegas! We'll depart this morning to somewhere decidedly more tranquil: Bryce National Park.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Heading to Bryce Canyon, we'll admire this unique organic amphitheatre with its red, orange and white spires, or you could opt for an ATV adrenaline ride.

Zion National Park

Tonight we'll enjoy stories around the campfire under starlit skies, before settling in for the night at our special stay: Under Canvas glamping tents.

Stay

Under Canvas

INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

  • Entry into Bryce Canyon National Park

DAY 2 - Zion National Park

Zion National Park

Journeying into the Zion Canyon, our jaws will drop at the towering white, pink and red sandstone cliffs. We'll spend most of the day here so pack some snacks and wear your best boots to get the most out of the day. There's no shortage of trails of all different levels not to mention restaurants and cafes and a comprehensive visitor centre if you're looking for a little guidance. Back at our Glamping Special Stay this afternoon, there's time for you to book a massage or just simply chill out, as the local birdlife provide the tunes. Why not stop in Springdale to stock up for a family style grill tonight, topped off with s'mores! We've never felt so damn American.

Stay

Under Canvas

INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

  • Entry into Zion National Park

DAY 3 - Zion National Park to Salt Lake City

Zion National Park

It's a travel day to Salt Lake City, Utah's capital and home to the mormons. En-route, we'll stop in the Homestead Crater Mineral Dome, a jaw-dropping geothermal spring in a beehive shaped limestone rock. As you can tell, words don't really do it justice. The water is balmy and has some muscle easing minerals, so make sure you've packed your swimwear.

Salt Lake City

Arriving in sparkling Salt Lake city with its dusty mountains and piercing skies,  there's no shortage of places to eat, but make sure the Temple Square is on your sightseeing list.

Stay

Tru Midvale

INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

  • See the Homestead Crater Mineral Dome

FREE TIME ADD-ONS

  • Mormon Missionary guided tour of the Temple and Temple Square

DAY 4 - Salt Lake City to Jackson

Salt Lake City

On the road again today, with some great scenery to keep you entertained. A lunch stop in Garden City - make sure you get a raspberry shake - and then it's in to Jackson, our base for Yellowstone National Park.

Jackson

It's all about the cowboys here and it's hard not to take a seat in the saddle with a cold beer at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar downtown. We could take a scenic trail ride before a BBQ cookout, if that's more your style. But it's fair to say we're doing Jackson the way it's supposed to be done. Yeehaa!

Stay

Togwotee Mountain Lodge

FREE TIME ADD-ONS

  • Evening trail ride and cookout in Jackson

DAY 5 - Jackson to Yellowstone National Park

Jackson

We've got a full day in Yellowstone ahead of us. Can you believe it?

Yellowstone National Park

We won't mess around ticking all of the Yellowstone bucket list boxes. Hiking = check. Beautiful mountain scenery = check. Mud Volcano, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Midway Geyser Station (where you can see the Grand Prismatic Spring), Old Faithful Geyser = check. Bison, bears, moose, elk = check.
Tonight your dinner is a cowboy cookout, complete with cowboy entertainment! It's fair to say that days don't get much better than this.

Stay

Togwotee Mountain Lodge

INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

  • Entry into Yellowstone National Park

  • Entry into Grand Teton National Park

  • Cowboy cookout dinner in Yellowstone

DAY 6 - Yellowstone National Park to Salt Lake City

Yellowstone National Park

We're headed back to Salt Lake City today for some much needed R&R.

Salt Lake City

We're all probably exhausted at this stage, but there are still many brilliant coffeehouses and restaurants to explore in this fascinating city.

Stay

Tru Midvale

DAY 7 - Salt Lake City to Page via Lake Powell

Salt Lake City

We're headed to Page today, with a special surprise on the way...

Lake Powell

The lake laps gently against rainbow coloured cliffs, and the water is calling our names. Fancy a dip?

Page

Arriving in Page, we're SO ready for some more adventures in nature.

Stay

Quality Inn Page

INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

  • Swim in Lake Powell (seasonal)

DAY 8 - Page

Page

We'll all be feeling very privileged this morning with an included Navajo experience. These generous people have given us a private slot to tour their canyon and horseshoe bend, and the privilege of being the ONLY travellers allowed on private Navajo land. We'll get to feast our eyes on the Navajo slot canyon that's longer and more colourful than the public version. What a treat. Feeling grateful, we'll follow our guide as they show us traditional hogons, and we'll get to fill our camera rolls up of the iconic horseshoe bend. Midday is for sheltering from the Utah sun so stroll the streets of Page and grab some lunch or visit one of the local museums and info centres. This afternoon, why not tick one final bucket list item and land on a butte with your very own chopper ride to the tallest of them all, Tower Butt?  You'll literally feel on top of the world! It's back to the hotel for some pure relaxation before one final night together. Pure magic, every single second.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions group

What documents do I need to travel?

Depending on your nationality, you may require visas to enter the USA and Canada on your trip. You are fully responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your trip. You can find more info at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. Contiki is not legally permitted to knowingly allow anybody who does not have a valid visa to join a trip. Visa and other entry & exit conditions (such as currency, arrival/departure taxes, customs and quarantine regulations) do change regularly.

Your passport must have at least six months’ validity remaining when you arrive. Local immigration authorities may deny entry and deport people who do not meet this requirement, even if they only intend to stay for a short period. Important to consider:

• Visas can take up to six weeks and a fee is normally charged
• Failure to obtain all necessary visas could cause you to miss part of
your trip and will result in you incurring considerable expense and
inconvenience
• It is better for you to apply for all visas before you leave home
• It is essential that the entry and exit dates are correct on the visa

What are the luggage restrictions?

On our American trips you can bring one bag or suitcase of 73 x 50 x 25 cm (or 29” x 20” x 10”), with a max weight of 20 kg (44 lbs) & one piece of hand luggage.

What do the Contiki team do?

People are at the heart of everything we do, and our team is what makes our trips the best. Our worldwide On-Road Team, locally based staff & network of Local Guides are all extensively trained & widely travelled, & are the best in the business. But we know it’s not just about training, it’s about passion & our team have it in their blood. Their passion for getting you in the know on every single detail of America is what makes our travellers walk away from their experience knowing that they made every moment count. Your Trip Manager is like your walking, talking guidebook – just for you. They plan your itinerary every day, organise your food and accomodation and book your Free Time Add ons, and because they know everything about where you’re going, you will too. Your Drivers are the experts on getting you from A to B efficiently and safely in North America. They know their way around like the back of their hands & they’ll drop you at your door & unload your bags for you. Local guides provide specialist knowledge when you need it and will always help you avoid the tourist traps.

What's not included that I should budget for?

Aside from essentials like flights, how much spending money you’ll need will depend on the duration of the trip and how much you anticipate spending on personal expenses like alcohol or shopping. Before you travel, it’s also a good idea to read up on and get an idea of the Free Time Add-Ons you think you’ll want to do on trip, as these will form part of your overall budget. We’d advise doing some research on your chosen destinations beforehand, looking at things like:

- Cost of a local lunch

- Cost of a local dinner

- Cost of a bottle of water

- Cost of entry to a sightseeing spot

Tipping is customary in North America. It is an accepted practice in all areas of the service industry, & particularly in restaurants, bars, hotels & taxis. It’s common practice to tip if you feel that the service provided has been excellent.
The same goes for your Contiki Team. If you feel that your Trip Manager & Driver’s service has been exceptional, then feel free to tip them if you feel they’ve done a great job. If you choose to tip, we recommend around US$3 per person per day, however whether or not you choose to tip (& how much) is up to you.

Will I be able to access WiFi on my trip?

We love WiFi, and keeping your accounts updated as you travel is key! The hotels all have WiFi where you can access your email to let your friends & family know you have arrived safely in Los Angeles, or email after your trip with all your stories.

What are Contiki’s sustainability credentials?

We believe that travelling sustainably and consciously, matters. Contiki Cares is our commitment to protecting the communities we visit, the wildlife we interact with, and the planet we all share. Our founding partner, the TreadRight Foundation was established 10 years ago as a not-for-profit organisation focused on promoting sustainable tourism within The Travel Corporation’s family of brands.
