Kuy Teav

This uber-popular pork noodle soup is a staple of Cambodian cuisine, particularly in Phnom Penh. Garnish with plenty of bean sprouts, limejuice, fresh herbs and the chilli option of your choice.

Amok Trey

Popularly known as 'fish amok', this coconut fish curry is spiced with kroeung and wrapped in a banana leaf, then steamed. As with most Cambodian dishes, you'll find it in many Siem Reap restaurants.

Crispy Tarantula

It's true: they eat spiders in Cambodia. Fried until crispy, they're considered a delicacy here. Some say it tastes like chicken, we say: you gotta try it for yourself on your Cambodia tour.

Nom Banh Chok

This delicious fish and noodle curry is known simply as 'Khmer noodles'. Garnished with bean sprouts, mint leaves, green beans and even banana flowers, it's a Cambodia travel must-try.

Lok Lak

Delicious and tangy marinated beef cubes, quickly stir-fried then served over a bed of cucumber, tomato and onions with rice on the side. Eat it wrapped in lettuce to get a true Cambodian flavour!

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

This former high school was one of the largest execution centres of the Cambodian Genocide. Now, it functions as a museum, with a chilling collection of photos documenting the true extent of the horror.

National Museum Of Cambodia

A mainstay of many Cambodia tour packages, this museum is home to one of the world's largest collections of Khmer art – highlights include a giant bronze statue of reclining Vishnu.

Meta House

This three-storey building in central Phnom Penh showcases the work of Cambodian and international artists. With an open-air rooftop media lounge and spellbinding views, it’s a must-do on your trip to Cambodia.

Bophana Center

Dedicated to recovering and preserving Cambodian audiovisual records and with a huge archive of old photos and film screenings too, it’s one of the best (free) things to do in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia Landmine Museum

Located inside the Angkor National Park just north of Siem Reap, this museum was founded by a former child-soldier who personally removed and defused mines he had been forced to plant.

Magha Puja

This Buddhist festival takes place during the full moon of the third lunar month. It's a national holiday where Cambodians aim to purify themselves by attempting to do only good things – well worth adding to your Cambodia trip itinerary.

Pchum Ben

During this 15-day Buddhist festival, the gates of hell are said to open and the ghosts of the dead are at large. Locals pay their respects to deceased relatives by throwing balls of sticky rice into fields.

Bom Om Touk

Sometimes known as 'The Water Festival', Bom Om Touk is celebrated throughout Cambodia, but Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh is where the action is at its thickest.

Cambodian New Year

Cambodian New Year is celebrated with three days of religious ceremonies, dancing, traditional games and plenty of lip-smackingly tasty local food. There’s also a water fight on the last day, so don’t miss it if your Cambodian vacation falls during New Years.

Royal Ploughing Ceremony

This festival marks the start of rice-growing season and involves two Royal oxen ploughing a field. Farmers use the ceremony to predict the coming harvest by seeing which food trough the oxen tuck into after.
