DAY 1 - Cape Town

Cape Town

Welcome to Cape Town! From sea to sky, this magnificent city will steal your heart. Upon arrival you'll check into the Mojo Hotel, just 50m from the promenade, and receive your hop on/hop off bus pass for the next few days. This is an unguided trip, but with your pass you have a whole city to explore. Make use of the food market attached to the hotel for dinner tonight.

DAY 2 - Cape Town

Cape Town

After an included breakfast it's time to uncover everything Cape town has to offer! Today we strongly recommend a tour of Robben Island where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison - book tickets in advance! Your hop-on/hop-off pass will take you directly to the ferry port. Spend the rest of the day taking in the views along the promenade or for the athletic - a hike up Lion's Head.

INCLUDED EXPERIENCES

  • Hop-on/Hop-off Bus 2 Day Pass to Key Attractions

DAY 3 - Cape Town

Cape Town

Another day, another included breakfast and another opportunity to explore. Use this day to explore the magnificent Kirstenbosch Gardens, Monkey Jungle, World of Birds or relax on some of Cape Town's famed beaches. Your trip ends at 6pm this evening, but you'll never forget the views and adventures of Cape Town.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions group

Are flights included in my trip?

International flights to/from the destination your trip starts and ends in are not included in the cost of the trip, and must be purchased separately. You can book these independently if you want to shop around for the best quote, or through your travel agent.

You’ll receive your 2-day hop on/hop off bus pass at the Mojo Hotel reception when you check in.

What documents do I need to travel?

Depending on your nationality, you may require a visa to enter South Africa. You are fully responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your trip. Contiki is not legally permitted to knowingly allow anybody who does not have a valid visa (if required) to join a trip. Visa & other entry & exit conditions such as currency, arrival/ departure taxes, customs & quarantine regulations change regularly, so make sure you stay up-to-date before you travel. It is also essential that you have any necessary vaccinations & comply with all laws of the countries visited.

What are the luggage restrictions?

On our Africa trips the bag restriction is 65x46cm with a max weight of 15kg, and bags must be soft sided. No hard-sided suitcases will be allowed. Your day bag should be a backpack, duffel bag or satchel only (no small luggage cases or suitcases with wheels on board the mini-vans).

Who will be on my trip?

This is an unescorted trip that gives you a few extra days in Cape Town before the Cape, Safari & Falls or Southern Africa Safari trips. We’ll give you a comprehensive info pack before you go, and will ensure you’re sorted with transfers and the sweetest digs. Our Contiki support team are available by phone 24/7.

What's not included that I should budget for?

How much spending money you’ll need will depend on how much you anticipate spending on personal expenses like alcohol or shopping. Before you travel, it’s also a good idea to read up on and get an idea of the Free Time Add-Ons you think you’ll want to do on trip, as these will form part of your overall budget. We’d advise doing some research on Cape Town beforehand, looking at things like:

- Cost of a local lunch

- Cost of a local dinner

- Cost of a local taxi

- Cost of entry to a sightseeing spot

It is strongly advised to have US$ in cash before the start of the trip.  Most places let you pay with card, but it is strongly advised to have US$200 - US$300 just in case. In all areas of the service industry in Africa, whether it’s restaurants, bars, hotels or taxis, it’s common practice to tip if you feel that the service received has been excellent.

Will I be able to access WiFi on my trip?

Yes, there will be WiFi at your hotel, so you’ll still be able to upload your best snaps as you travel.

What are Contiki’s sustainability credentials?

We believe that travelling sustainably and consciously, matters. Contiki Cares is our commitment to protecting the communities we visit, the wildlife we interact with, and the planet we all share. Our founding partner, the TreadRight Foundation was established 10 years ago as a not-for-profit organisation focused on promoting sustainable tourism within The Travel Corporation’s family of brands. From a giraffe centre in Nairobi and an elephant orphanage in Kenya to a community visit in Shanga, we make sure our African experiences give something back to this incredible continent.
