    5 nights in Lodge

In the shade of coconut palms, you'll find the charming bungalows of Bahari View Lodge. “Bahari” means “ocean” in Kiswahili, the local language. The fringing coral reefs protect the island from the waters of the vast Indian Ocean. The restaurant and the beach bar are situated in the tropical garden – a perfect place for a sun-downer with spectacular views across the turquoise waters. Come and indulge in one of the world‘s last existing paradises. Karibu Zanzibar

Zanzibar

The next four days are yours to spend living your best island life. That might be sunbathing with a fresh coconut in hand, then checking out the hotel's beach view spa for a soothing massage. Or, sign up for a day-trip to Zanzibar's capital of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When the evening rolls around, pick a spot at the fish-shaped swimming pool or the Rocks Lounge bar to catch a spinetingling sunset.

DAY 3 - Zanzibar

Zanzibar

Today is another free day to explore. You're free to feast on seafood at the sea front, or sign up for a day of diving or snorkelling in the clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Rather be on the water than in it? Check out the hotel's watersports or a short day boat trip, maybe to Prison Island to see the giant resident tortoises. Then if you're up for making a night of it, head to the beach when the sun goes down - the Full Moon parties here are legendary, and the policy at the Rocks restaurant and Lounge bar is shoes optional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions group

Are flights included in my trip?

International flights to/from the destination your trip starts and ends in are not included in the cost of the trip, and must be purchased separately. You can book these independently if you want to shop around for the best quote, or through your travel agent.

What documents do I need to travel?

Depending on your nationality, you may require visas to enter certain African countries. You are fully responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your trip. Contiki is not legally permitted to knowingly allow anybody who does not have a valid visa (if required) to join a trip. Visa & other entry & exit conditions such as currency, arrival/ departure taxes, customs & quarantine regulations change regularly, so make sure you stay up-to-date before you travel. It is also essential that you have any necessary vaccinations & comply with all laws of the countries visited.

What are the luggage restrictions?

On our Africa trips the bag restriction is 65x46cm with a max weight of 15kg, and bags must be soft sided. No hard-sided suitcases will be allowed. Your day bag should be a backpack, duffel bag or satchel only (no small luggage cases or suitcases with wheels on board the mini-vans)

What do the Contiki team do?

This is an unguided trip to give you free time to relax after your busy safari. It’s not a group trip and you can enjoy the island’s pleasures in your own time. But who needs a team when all you have to do is rest, relax, repeat?

What's not included that I should budget for?

How much spending money you’ll need will depend on how much you anticipate spending on personal expenses like alcohol or shopping. On arrival to our accommodations you can upgrade your package from Bed and Breakfast to Half or Full Board and settle directly at check-in. Before you travel, it’s also a good idea to read up on and get an idea of the Free Time Add-Ons you think you’ll want to do on your trip, as these will form part of your overall budget. We’d advise doing some research on Zanzibar beforehand, looking at things like:

- Cost of a local lunch

- Cost of a local dinner

- Cost of a local taxi

- Cost of entry to a sightseeing spot

It is strongly advised to have US$ in cash before the start of the trip.  Most places let you pay with card, but it is strongly advised to have US$200 - US$300 just in case. In all areas of the service industry in Africa, whether it’s restaurants, bars, hotels or taxis, it’s common practice to tip if you feel that the service received has been excellent.

Will I be able to access WiFi on my trip?

There will be WiFi at your hotel, but it is Zanzibar so it's probably better for sending some emails and posting some pics rather than streaming a full length feature film. And besides, why would you want to when a pure white beach is waiting?

What are Contiki’s sustainability credentials?

We believe that travelling sustainably and consciously, matters. Contiki Cares is our commitment to protecting the communities we visit, the wildlife we interact with, and the planet we all share. Our founding partner, the TreadRight Foundation was established 10 years ago as a not-for-profit organisation focused on promoting sustainable tourism within The Travel Corporation’s family of brands. From choosing local suppliers and accommodation, to offering experiences that support the local industry, we always try to give something back to this incredible continent.
