DAY 1 - Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires
Well good morning Buenos Aires – who’s ready to go conquer this magnificent city? We’ll get you straight into the hustle of BA with a city tour of the best bits, we’re talking colonial mansions, the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca, the historic meets cosmopolitan vibes of Puerto Madero and San Telmo and more, all the while learning about the historic figures who made this city what it is today. Just hold back some of that new city energy for tonight. Oh yes, we’ve got a traditional tango show served over Argentine wine and melt in the mouth food on offer, and we know deep down you’ve got the moves…

City sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires

DAY 2 - Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires
After our city tour yesterday, we’ll be feeling pretty acquainted with BA and ready to dive in and explore for ourselves. A good job really, as the next two days are yours to write your very own Buenos Aires love story. So, what to do? How about taste testing the traditional creamy cookies (alfajores), or scouting for antiques in the district of San Telmo. Feel like getting a little more active? One word – polo. The national sport of Argentina, polo is a pretty big deal, so here’s your chance to discover it for yourself. Catch a game, refuel over a tasty BBQ lunch, then jump on horseback and take tips from the pros. That might just be another big ol’ tick off that ever growing bucket list.

DAY 3 - Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires
Today is our last full day in Buenos Aires so time to really make it count. Ask your Trip Manager for any must do activities to tick off the list…or just a killer spot to sink a few café con leche and watch the city go by (we love the historic Café Tortoni). Tonight, why not make it all about the belly with our optional culinary experience. You’ll get the chance to make your very own empanadas from scratch, cook an Argentine steak perfectly to your liking, and devour yet more of those tasty little alfajores. And the wine? Well that will just keep on flowing, naturally…

Landing in Puerto Iguazu we’ll hop over the border and dig or toes into Brazilian soil for the first time, clapping eyes on yet another astounding natural wonder. Listen out for all those oohhs and aahhs. A collection of 275 individual waterfalls, Iguassu Falls sprawls both Brazil and Argentina, with both sides offering up stunning UNESCO World Heritage parks and views. Today though, is all about the Brazilian side, and what better way to see the falls from every angle than with an optional helicopter ride, taking the term ‘birds eye view’ to a whole new level. Go on – treat yo’ self! For those keeping feet on the ground, take your time exploring the Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, then tonight we’ll pencil in some group hangs over caipirinha’s to debrief yet another action packed day.
DAY 5 - Iguassu Falls
Iguassu Falls
Iguassu we’re not done with you yet! Yesterday was all about the Brazilian side, but today we’re hopping back over to Argentina to see what the deal is from this side of the falls. We’ll take a hike to the very edge of Devil’s Throat, the highest of the 275 falls, and for those keen there’s even the option to take to the water with a speed boat ride through the spray of the falls. Refreshing? Oh you could say that…With a full day spent here, take your time exploring, trying to figure out the age old debate – which side wears it better? Tonight, dinners packing a serious punch – we’ll be treating you to an authentic Brazilian BBQ dinner. Say hello to the meat sweats…

Rio de Janeiro
If Rio knows one thing, it’s how to p-a-r-t-y, so having fun in this life loving city is already a given. But first things first – let’s get acquainted with our surroundings a little better. After a quick orientation tour, the afternoon is then yours to explore as you please, though given our hotel's beachfront location, we reckon you'll only have one thing on your mind.
DAY 7 - Rio De Janerio
Rio de Janeiro
Ready for another New Wonder of the World? Today will kick off with a visit to perhaps South America’s biggest icon – the Christ the Redeemer statue. Standing at an impressive 30m high (that’s 98ft) this religious monument casts an almighty shadow over the city below, and will be a moment you won’t be forgetting any time soon. Back in the city, the choice is yours as to how the rest of the day goes. Kick back on Copacabana amidst the football players and Capoeira masters, or maybe you’d prefer to ascend the 396 metres of Sugarloaf Mountain, or party Favela style with the locals. Tonight we’ve got yet another foodie experience to tempt you with, taking Brazilian BBQ to a whole new level of meat indulgence. Let’s do this!

DAY 8 - Rio De Janerio
Rio de Janeiro
Excuse us while we cry into our caipirinhas – today is our last full day on tour. Sob. But before the emotions run too high, let’s make sure we see it out with a bang, Rio style. So, what have we got to tempt you with today? How’s about a boat cruise overflowing with cocktails and good times, or maybe go hand-gliding over the city to catch it in all its scenic glory. If those sweet Brazilian rays are calling you (or perhaps just the gorgeous bods in teeny tiny swimwear), opt to spend your last day kicking it on the beach, capirinha in hand of course. However you want to see out your trip, your Trip Manager is there to make it happen (and that includes watching the masters of football do it like no one else can, if a game’s in town). Tonight’s your last one with your Latin family, so make it one to remember…

Just think the price point is a bit steep for the quality of hotels and the laidback nature of the trip. Better group dynamics expected.

The hotels/accommodation was hardly even 2 stars - the pillows in argentina and mattresses had yellow stains. We had to change buses multiple times and had all different drivers. Numerous cab/Uber costs which you have to spend on your own. In Argentina we literally just had a 2-3 hour walking tour visited two stops and then the guide let the bus driver go home early because of Traffic. There was no activities included in Argentina and hardly any in Brazil either. And all the optionally were far too overpriced and unreasonable for a “student” like company. Brazil had some great sites to see but again nothing was included and everything is an add on. Not worth the price. Too much of a heavy party/drinking culture as opposed to actually learning about the sites visited. The tour guide would just stop at monuments give a 0-3min explanation and say you have 10mins for photos and go. Hardly learnt anything about the sites visited. Argentina was a waste. Brazil at least had better views but again for the price at least some activities should had been included.

First trip with Contiki and definitely not impressed. Let's start off by saying there was very little transportation provided by Contiki. Besides Iguassu your pretty much ubering and using taxis the whole trip. Even on the last dinner there was not transportation provided and we had to take the public bus which of course all of this is coming out of your pocket which eventually adds up. The "nightlife" that is stated was not what i was expecting. The tour manager had no options and in Buenos Aires took us to a nightclub that seemed like it was for crackheads. Not to mention me and my friend who booked the trip together were left behind with no notification and did not get a response until hours later. In Rio, being a party scene city it was the same. The small group we had was lousy and didn't even want to go out once again when I asked tour manager for suggestions he only had knowledge of one nightclub which he probably knew of because it was close to the hotel. Definitely not the best club either. The breakfast served besides Iguassu was not the best either. The hotel in Rio does not have a beachfront location like it is stated. False advertisement , the hotel isn't even facing the beach. Its about three blocks away and you have a view of a building in front. In conclusion, for what the trip costs it is not worth it. Rio should be extended there was not enough time to explore enough. Trip definitely needs more improvement in various areas.

This 3 star review is mostly due to the ineffective tour manager. As someone stated earlier, he was more of a "friend" than a leader. He verbalized several times that we should make "his life easier" by being patient with him. He could not command a group nor efficiently collect add-on money for excursions. He misspoke several times, i.e. giving incorrect directions, misquoting prices, misquoting times, literally anything and everything. Aside from the tour manager, I would have given this tour a 4, they need to improve the inclusions on this trip. At least one more day in Rio would have been ideal, there's not enough time spent there. I stayed 4 extra nights to take advantage of the beaches! This trip wouldn't have been the same without Iguazu, the perfect amount of time is spent there. I didn't leave there feeling like I didn't get to see enough. Oh, also note they removed the favela tour as an optional add-on

If you’re planning on doing this trip, I would highly advise planning ahead for the Buenos Aires portion of the trip. Considering most people don’t do the Contiki planned Tigre trip (go to Tigre on your own time in an Uber, it’s WAY cheaper) or the polo match (also can be booked for a cheaper price with an outside party), the second and third day are free. So plan what you would like to do for those two days! We went to Tigre, did the Argentina Experience with the group (highly recommend), and spent a day in Uruguay in the town of Colonia (also recommend). Unless you really make an effort, due to a lack of together time, you won’t be completely familiar with your group the first three days. It’s not until the fourth day that the Contiki factor kicks in and your together time during the Brazil portion of the trip allows you to make more friends. The Brazil portion of the trip is amazing and action packed. I would however recommend staying a day or two longer in Rio. There’s a lot to do and you won’t be able to check off your entire list in your few days with Contiki. Also, due to safety reasons, we weren’t able to do the Favella tour with Contiki. A lot of the group end up doing the tour with an outside party called Be a Local. If you feel comfortable enough, do the tour with Be a Local. It’s a great experience.

The trip was very unorganized and not worth the stress of going along with the tour. You would be better off to plan the trip yourself. Confusion and disorientation was a common theme among travellers. You would save money and have more time to do what you want if you do not use contiki. And although there was free time with optional excursions for a cost, a lot of the added excursions you paid for came with extra hidden costs such as transportation, and non refundable deposits (hang gliding). Hang gliding in particular had a deposit which was written down as $R 40 but when we arrived we were told $R 50. Also, if you are paying $100-150 USD for something you would not expect to also pay for a taxi or Uber to get to the excursion. On one of the day sheets provided by the contiki trip manager the transportation was highlighted as an inclusion. As if we should be excited that we got a ride to where we were going.. One of the excursions should be removed altogether (bike ride to Tigre in Buenos Aires). Not one person I talked to enjoyed that experience and no one thought it was worth the time or money. Also the hang gliding in Rio de Janeiro should have been set up with better expectations. The excursion took the entire day even though we were told it would take a few hours. I understand weather conditions were out of the people’s control but if I knew the potential wait I may have chosen to skip it. And the fact that the organization kept saying that if we didn’t fly that day they would hold our spot for 6 months was ridiculous. As if we could just hop on a plane or planes and be back.. Also did not like how the included dinners had limited options and anything additional we had to pay for. I have heard good things about contiki tours in Europe but because this was my first experience I don’t know if I will be using the company again or if I will be suggesting it to family or friends. Throughout the tour I heard various complaints about the overall quality from many people about the accommodation (especially Tribeca hotel in Buenos Aires and Royalty Rio in Rios de Janeiro), time management, excursions, inclusions etc. I tried to stay positive but honestly I agreed with most, if not all of the complaints. If I knew what I know now I would have never used Contiki for this trip because I truly feel it was a waste of my time and money.

I was so happy that Contiki was able to offer a trip to Brazil and Argentina and get the opportunity to explore places I only dreamed of visiting. The add-on excursions were pricey but worth going to. One issue I found during the tour was the transportation. I was not expecting to get around by Uber or taxi to most places and it did start to add up after a while. Aside from that, it's a great experience and our Trip Manager Joel, worked very hard to make sure we were happy and gave us plenty of options for places to go and explore. I was happy with making the decision to go on this tour. I can't wait to travel again!

Unorganized, both the tour and the guide. Guide was more of a friend than a guide. Hotels were subpar at best. Biking excursion in Argentina was a waste of time and money. 2 HOUR train ride for almost 100usd, that's ridiculous. The fact that you try to swindle more money for the transportation to the airport is shocking. An Uber for the fraction of the cost! Everything was so rushed! From iguazzu falls, Christ the Redeemer, sugarloaf etc. We shouldn't be rushed to see things that we paid thousands of dollars to travel to see. Hang gliding!***** It needs to be communicated that it can take all day. Be honest and transparent that it's weather dependent and can literally take you from 9am-5pm. Less time should have been spent in Argentina and more in Brazil. There were too many times where we had to take a taxi or an Uber to get to our activities. I've only heard great things about Europe contiki, but i would never recommend South America contiki to anyone.
