This was my first Contiki trip and it did not disappoint. Like all services, there were little details that I would want to see changed. I understand English isn't Ecuador's national language, but if you're going to let costumers go do activities without the Contiki manager(who can translate), then the tour company should at least speak English to a certain degree. Doing extreme ziplining, canyoneering and other potentially dangerous activities should be well explained and when I did these activities, little instruction was given.
I also understand if we're on a schedule, it's easier to pre-order lunch. These pre-ordered meals weren't included in the trip cost. When I hear meals aren't included, I assume that I will get the chance to pick a restaurant and anything I want to eat so that I can choose how much I want to spend. Please add these pre-ordered meals to the cost of the trip.
Tipping was also something I didn't budget for. Maybe I should have done more research, but it also wasn't specified in the trip details. I was expected to tip EVERYWHERE and EVERYONE. Hotel staff and maids, taxi drivers, bus drivers, every tour guide, servers, etc. Our tour manager actually said that our Galapagos tour guide's tip was included but she encouraged us to add tips anyway. This felt a bit like a guilt trip as he was standing right there.
These were just minor negative details but the overall trip was amazing.
