This former French colonial home also dishes out the details of the influence of the French, the impact of the Vietnam War and the coming-to-power of the Communist Party in Laos. Next, explore some of the ancient wonders of the city, including the golden stupas of That Luang and the statues at the Xieng Khuan Buddha Park.
If you’re looking for things to do in Laos that are nature related, follow the river north to Luang Prabang. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is bursting with natural beauty, from the Mekong River to the Kuang Si Waterfalls. Wander around the ancient streets, lined with wooden stores and houses, before getting culture shock checking out the King’s luxury car collection at the Royal Palace. If you’re all about getting there slowly, work a stop to the Plain of Jars in the East or to Vang Vieng in the North.
When it comes to food, everything is tasty in Laos. Light, healthy meals and snacks are the staple in this part of the world, and veggos and vegans rejoice: almost everything can be made without meat.
